This certainly isn't foodie but it does relate to food so I guess this is the best thread for it.

I wonder if you guys can relate to this.....

I have a bad habit with bread. I get the fancy multigrain breads. It's one of the few adult thing I do. I'll get down to maybe 5 or 6 slices left when I hit the expiration date on the package so I put it in the freezer.

Next time I'm at the grocery store I go oh, I only had five slices of bread left so I should buy another loaf.

That leads to me being back home and wanting to eat the fresh bread and not the bread I put in the freezer. And then this cycle endlessly repeats itself.

I currently have about six bags of bread that only have three to six slices left in them in my freezer. If I keep this up my entire freezer will be nothing but bags containing the ass end of bread loafs.

We buy fresh multigrain bread from When Pigs Fly, which is made in York and sold regionally.

We immediately put it in the freezer. And then we defrost whatever we need, like 20 seconds in the microwave, and then toast. So we use the whole loaf.

Yeah, that's what everybody does with freezer bread. Microwave it for a few seconds then into the toaster.

But you think defrosted bread is equal to bread out of the bag that you just take out of your cupboard (or amazing pantry with an even more amazing window) and put directly in the toaster?

Because to me there is a significant difference.

It would seem to me living in a storage facility which may have some refrigerated units that freezer space would not be an immediate concern.

Oh shit okay I thought you were busting my balls the way hectic does about like living in a storage unit and I typed out a full fun jokey response, but then I realized your post I think is actually serious and just a little bit jokey.

That's not how storage places work. I mean they have climate controlled units but it's not like a US foods type place that has freezers all over. Also you do not want to put food in any of the storage units because that's how the rats start to show up and that's fucking disgusting and it's a problem of dealing with and it sucks. Thank the good Lord that none of them have ever showed their dirty little rat faces in my apartment. Maybe it's because they smell Athena or I just stink so much. They don't even want to show up but I'd straight up. Told my boss if I see a rat in my apartment I will call him at 3:00 a.m. to get terminix here. I don't care what time it is and I will also seriously consider quitting and I'm not at all joking about that. I will not live in a place where there is a rat inside my apartment.

I would say like once or twice a year. There's this really sad situation where I'll find a person living in their unit and then I have to kick them out and if a person is at the point where they are literally living in a storage unit, they clearly are not doing well and then I don't know. It doesn't feel good to have to make shit worse for them, but I have to.

The reason I bring that up is because my fucking storage units have rats these days and it's goddamn gross and I'm constantly bitching at my boss about it. I've got terminix here once a week. We're trying to take care of it, but imagine being one of those people that sweeps in a unit and then you like wake up and there's like a rat sitting next to you. Like Jesus Christ dude, I think I would honestly consider killing myself.

Anyway, this became a long dictated post like most of mine have been lately, but really I think it's wild that scotch buys fancy bread and freezes it right away. My like crazy multigrain bread that has like seeds on the crust and shit definitely tastes worse when I have to defrost it.

My dad had mice one winter. You could hear them prattle at night above the fake roof tiles. They found a way in under his front steps. He set his own traps. This was completely fucked but he used humane traps so he would catch them alive and flush them down the toilet. The next year before winter came he buried a block of rat poison under the front step and never had another problem.

Mice are way different than rats and while still gross, I wouldn't have serious thoughts about quitting if I saw a mouse in my apartment.

Yeah that's not great but anything is more humane than those sticky traps. Terminix here uses a shit ton of poison all over the place. My whole fucking property is basically covered in poison at the moment.

We also have about eight storage units offline and they are bait units and they all use the traditional spring-loaded traps. Finding a rat caught in one of those is gross, but a dead rat is a million times less gross than a living rat.

And just to put things in perspective.... I'm here in my free apartment bitching about a rodent problem in storage units while from 1942 to 1945 if Hendrik was able to eat a few spoonfuls of rat meat in boiled water he considered that a great day. So shit could always be a lot worse.

Oh, there we go! Me mentioning delicious concentration camp rat stew brought us back around to foodie talk.

When we buy fresh bread or fresh bagels, we don't freeze them right away. Like if we pick-up bagels for a brunch, we just bring them home and eat whatever we want that day. But usually once we're done with them for the day, we'll freeze them. Because if you let them sit out for a day, then they're no longer fresh anyway. And the stuff we buy has no preservatives. With the bread, Mrs. Scotch might buy it in the afternoon, and have it (unfrozen) the next day. But then after that, she freezes it.

The point being, there's no reason to have multiple uneaten bags in the freezer. If there's a frozen bag with just those little heel pieces left, she usually just throws it out anyway.

Oh okay with clarification, that makes a lot more sense. I took "immediately" to mean when you unpack the groceries, as soon as you get home, the bread goes right in the freezer. You can see from what you said originally how I would find it a bit weird, right?

Also, you're talking about way fancier bread than I. You're talking about like farmers market bread. I'm talking about a loaf that costs I don't know, $5.50 in the Publix bread aisle. To me that is fucking fancy bread but I'm pretty sure it still has preservatives and stuff in it because the expiration date is around a week and a half from the day I buy it.

Also, none of you nerds thought this was funny? I was talking about all serious shit and then I thought I made a pretty good joke about it to make it less of a giant bummer. You don't find my Japanese starvation camp jokes funny? Well all you humorless assholes can go kick rocks.

I'm sitting in basically a one room house

Speaking of Wonka.... Which I was just doing in another thread.... You make it sound like you're in that one room ghetto Charlie lived in where he, his parents and grandparents all slept in the same bed.

Meanwhile, your one room Maine dream home is a lot closer to the hall in the Palace of Versailles than that room in Wonka.

I try it too but I wouldn't buy it like if somebody had it I'd give it a shot. I don't like Dr. Pepper in general. It's never a go-to for me. If it's the only thing at somebody's house I'll drink it. But that's about it.
