There is a small movie theater in my town that I've never been to and it starts showing Jurassic Park tomorrow! I've rambled on about how that is easily in my top 5 all time favorite movies so I'm pretty sure I'll have to go check it out. Tickets are a whopping $4.

And in big movie theater chain news:

AMC opens on 8.20 and Regal opens on 8.21.

You'll never be able to catch COVID cheaper again in your life.

I probably already have it after Disney so I may as well lean into it now. AND IT'S JP ON THE BIG SCREEN!!! I haven't seen it that way since elementary school.

And I'm the only one in the theater. Shocking a huge crowd didnt turn out to watch a 1993 movie during a full blown virus outbreak.

People are dumb. I'm smart.

Watched a lot of movies the last few weeks:

No Country for Old Men - this was great!
The Hurt Locker - great!
Blade Runner (1982) - liked it, but really weird movie.
Rosemary's Baby - liked it, but not very scary
The Last Picture Show - classic Americana
Taxi Driver - saw it years before, still great
The Terminator - yeah, first time seeing it. Liked it.
The King's Speech - good
Silver Linings Playbook - really good. Hope Eagles fan JHDK saw this one.
The Artist - for a silent film made just a few years ago, really good.
Mulholland Drive - very mysterious
Slumdog Millionaire - okay, not my favorite
The Departed - liked it, but not easy to keep up with sometimes.
2001: A Space Odyssey - saw it years before, liked it more this time
White Heat - classic James Cagney gangster film
Alien - yeah, this was a fun one!
The Babadook - good scary one.
The Apartment - seen quite a few times, one of my favorite older films. Jack Lemmon. Brilliantly written.
Boyhood - good, but could have been shortened.

I just watched a really good war movie called The Outpost.

Interesting story, a few weeks ago I rewatched American Sniper and that led me down the Youtube path of Chris Kyle interviews. From there I stumbled upon this:

Then, unrelated, I saw that The Outpost was a war movie with good reviews so I figured I'd give it a shot. Turns out it's about the same battle from that interview where the guy got the Medal of Honor.

Like I said, it's really good. It's about this base in Afghanistan in this awful strategic position...basically in a valley surrounded by mountains.

The taliban shoot at them all the time and then eventually full on assault the place. A bunch of Americans died but they were able to fight them off in the end. The whole second act of the movie is an intense firefight. A lot of the stuff said in that Youtube interview is shown in the movie. I highly recommend it. 4.5/5

Just got done with season one of Ozark, and started season two.
It's pretty good. There's a blend of original and familiar, and enough bat shit crazy that we'll be burned through season 3 in no time.

I'm glad you are liking it. It seemed promising for us, then went off that cliff, and there's no returning from that.

We watched the miniseries Unorthodox, highly recommended. If you want bat shit crazy, check out the ultra-orthodox Jews in Brooklyn. It's about a young wife who leaves the cult. It was only 4 episodes. So now we have nothing to watch (again).

No country for old men might be the best picture in that list but it's a good film run there. I was thinking I've never seen Sophies choice, wtf. The apartment is a great one. Hurt locker didn't work for me. I'm a Lynch freak so Mulholland drive is my favorite.
