I saw it during it's original release in theaters, and it was a really powerful movie; but if I had never seen it, I don't think I'd be able to sit through it today.

I've never seen it. One needs to be in a very specific mood to be able to sit through movies like that.

Wow, so I have this busy work I'm doing these days and I find it best to watch some girly reality TV while doing it. So TLC is often on during weekdays. I tore through the 90 day shows and then moved over to Oxygen for Love after Lockup. Then I felt too girly and watched a bunch of The First 48. That got too depressing so I'm back to TLC and apparently there is this show called Extreme Cheapskates. This show is bonkers! Like this one family fills up 1 bathtub with cold water and they all take turns bathing in that same water. Another family uses weeds from the side of the highway for salads. One guy is a fireman and feeds his family, like everyday, with leftovers from the firehouse. He also washes his home dishes at the firehouse. This show is insane. And according to the info button this is season 3 so I have a bunch of episodes to get through if it's on demand.

UPDATE: Besides the two I just watched live, there are 23 more episodes on demand! Score!

I guess that can be entertaining for a while. Everything you described is extremely disgusting and deranged. I watched 2 or 3 seasons of Hoarders (back in the day). It was fascinating at first, but it just got sadder and sadder. Basically, it's people who need mental help and intervention, who aren't getting it, and are being left alone to put their issues on display.

Hah, no I'm not beating off to Extreme Cheapskates Hectic (you know manatee nature shows are my bag) but thanks for asking hah.

Anyway some guy was saving money by eating a cow head and that was too gross for me so I moved on to Extreme Couponing. This is a show I already knew existed and enjoy. Another show filled with insane people. I had a temp at my last job who was a couponer. It was interesting to talk with her about how she did it. Like the people on the show she had a major stockpile.

I hear that. I can't watch Hoarders cause it's too sad and filled with truly insane people. Cheapskates are def. people who have a screw loose but the vast majority of them don't appear to be poor, they have middle class jobs and nice houses so I feel a better laughing at them.

Nah, we all know you were picturing my masturbation habits but I'll humor you...

Yep, that's exactly what I'm doing. The girl has had a tough go of it lately with multiple medical issues including a somewhat minor, but nonetheless scary surgery she from which she is still recovering. Before any of that though I offered to help again. After a week or 2 I told her straight out my intentions and she didn't say no flat out so I'm taking that as a step in the right direction, but who knows. She also mentioned getting a take out dinner together and going to Disney together when she's all better so that's probably a good sign. Meanwhile I'm texting like 500 people/day and making a bunch of calls. We'll see where this goes. Like I said, I told her exactly why I am doing it.

How is your friend Jack doing these days?

Hah, 100% sober since the Fourth of July...it was actually a few days before that but it's an easy date to remember if I am able to make a real run of this and put together months and years. I started helping the girl out (and taking my walks) again on 7.12, after sobering up from what will hopefully become known as my last bender.

The advice Hectic and a bunch of other people in my life gave me seems to make sense, if I have any shot to get her back the drinking (and lying that comes along with it) needs to stop and I'm pretty incapable of drinking responsibly so I need to cut it out all together.

We pay for HBO, Showtime, Netflix and Prime, but we're not watching any of that. We have AXS TV on. They're playing a Stevie Nicks concert from 2011. She's got the auto-tune cranked up to 11. Wow. Guess nobody cares?

This looks like it might not suck.

Certainly a better overall tone that the made-for-children, not funny even though they try, Marvel movies.

Back to Extreme Cheapskates...

Some of the people on the show are real Swamp Thing looking monsters but others look normal and they fascinate me the most. Right now I'm watching Barry, who saves hair to sell it and makes prison wine at home to save money. Yet he has an attractive wife. When he proposed he gave her an empty ring box with a note inside asking her to marry him.

Say what?
When he proposed he gave her an empty ring box with a note inside asking her to marry him.
And that didn't persuade her to run the other way?

I remember this episode of Hoarders, where the hoarder was a handsome, fit guy in his 30's. He dated this woman for a year before she ever saw his place. It was a nice, contemporary condo from the outside, but inside, everything he ever bought was piled up nearly to the ceiling. I think she had to break off the relationship, but she appeared on the show.
