Today's Denny's Commercial

I'm not sure that you guys noticed that this thread is a few months old. This isn't the first time that Denny's has reared its awkwardly placed head on the show.

One more to add to the thread...

Today, during the news, Robin mentioned Denny's free breakfast giveaway and how millions of people showed up. One would normally expect Howard to go off on how insane these people were for taking time off of work to stand in the cold for hours for a $5 shit breakfast. But nope. Instead, he said something like "pancakes sound good."

Hmmmmmm...........

The fact that this thread is almost 2 months old actually goes against your argument, IMO. If the show had NO advertisements then I could see why people would be suspicious but they advertise openly. Its not like Howard has any qualms about plugging shit but how does being secretive do Denny's any good?. Today's ads had him saying "flowers are mandatory for Valentine's Day" in the Proflowers ad and "don't do the same old boring flowers" in the VT teddy bear ads...

I wonder how much the NFL paid for all that Superbowl talk?
 
How does it do Denny's good? Because it is being presented as if it was Howard's genuine opinion and show content and not just another paid spot he's forced to read.
 
Yeah, Denny's is one of those places that is probably beyond getting any sort of benefit out of viral marketing. Either you like it and go there, or you don't - no matter what some talk show host says.

Though, those Moons Over My Hammy sure do sound good.......

The Meat Lovers Scramble is really good too, especially when you're piling it on top of a bunch of alcohol at 3 am. The description from their menu..."Two eggs scrambled with chopped bacon, diced ham and crunched sausage, and topped with cheddar cheese. Served with two strips of bacon, two sausage links, hash browns, and two fluffy pancakes." I love that they serve bacon and sausage on the side as well, even though it's already in the eggs. Overindulgence at its finest.

Any Waffle House fans? I've only been once, a long time ago.
 
not to keep beating a dead horse, but Denny's has a lot to gain from viral marketing.

They are in the process of repairing their name and image (hence the enormous breakfast give away that cost the company millions).

Just a few years ago their name was synonymous with racist horrible redneck food.

So if TSS gets a good pop from a $500 dollar giveaway, what's Denny's paying to have Howard insert a subtle mention every 60 days? 100 bucks? 200? Not even worth the effort on Howard's part if they were paying. Are they paying extra to barely get mentioned?

Nobu must be part of this secret viral campaign too, since he mentions them all the time...

He never said Denny's food is good and people should go there. He found a news story about the CEO interesting and liked their Superbowl ad. He was commenting on events in the news, not bringing them up out of the blue. You make it sound like his minnions will flock to Denny's because he spoke their name.

Sorry, just a little too tinfoil hattish for me...
 
They just gave away $millions in free food, and you don't think they'd give the most influential voice in the history of entertainment (outside of Oprah) tens of thousands of dollars to present positive things about their company to his audience during show content?

I know it sounds a little tinfoilish, and I normally try to stay away from that crap regarding the show, but there's something here with Denny's. This is a shithole establishment that should not be in WEALTHY Howard's radar AT ALL (as would something like Nobu that is frequented by wealthy folk). Yet he spent five minutes of the show talking about a lame, run-of-the-mill Horatio Alger story about the CEO of Denny's a few weeks ago, claims that his favorite SuperBowl ad was the barely memorable Denny's ad, and passes up the opportunity to bash the idiots in the $5.99 breakfast line yesterday while claiming to crave pancakes, a food item that we all know has not entered his body in decades.

Are we to believe all of that is just a coincidence and that Hamptons Howard has such a genuine interest in the historically racist, lower class, unhealthy Denny's that he spends prescious show minutes on it, or is it simply paid viral marketing?

Occam's razor, my friends.
 
I'm sorry, but does it really matter IF Howard was given an incentive for plugging Denny's? It doesn't bother me one bit, and it really shouldn't bother anyone else.
 
And yes, this viral marketing and occasional mention during show content is MUCH MORE effective and valuable than paid, obviously forced spots. Something that is presented as if it is Howard's genuine opinion will gain much more attention and respect from fans than a paid ad thus making it more effective.

That one mention by Howard during actual showtime is worth dozens of paid spots.

The show has always been about honesty. When listeners hear Howard speak his opinion, they do not expect it to be paid marketing. It's dishonest and goes against everything he once stood for.

The show has never been about honesty, it's been about funny. Now Howard may claim it's all about honesty, and it's true that funny very often means honesty, but that doesn't mean the show is all about honesty. On the other hand, I'm not saying the entire show is a ruse; just that given a choice between honesty and funny, Howard chooses funny (and thank god for that).

I sometimes snack on dry shredded wheat right out of the box, any time of day. I think that's healthier than coffee enemas, but Robin might disagree with me. :D
