Sadchild's "high fives" (every artist I like at least five songs from)

OK, usually I keep quiet, but I have this WTF?!?! that has to come out. Here are a quickly compiled 5 Rod Stewart songs that are vastly, supremely, overwhelmingly superior to the pathetic drivel you listed (note: this is just my opinion; you're entitled to yours). My apologies in advance.
I know what I’m getting you for Christmas.

You’re comin in HOT,
mostly because of the sideboob in the video.
The video was great with the sound off too.
Anyhoo, Rod has some real drivel. Like "Do You Think I'm Sexy" and that god-awful "All For Love" with Sting and Bryan Adams.
The Revolting Cocks version was great!
But for Bowie, I feel the opposite. I can't fathom how people can listen to Bowie 1983-1989.
I like that era….

I've been wondering if Egypt Station will show up in your thread when you get to 2018. Of course there's no 'right' or 'wrong', you may hate it the way I hate the songs he did with Kanye (ABSOLUTELY AWFUL!!) For me, it's his best album. And that includes his stuff with Wings. But I've been silently ('til now) curious if it will show up on yours...

Royal Blood

Genre: (first two albums) heavy rock, alt rock (third album) dance rock, disco rock

Discovered: BBC Sound of 2014

Other: RB blew me away with "Out Of The Black" and the other 3 songs on their EP. I was thrilled, and drooling while waiting for their debut album like a 15 year old again. It ended up 50% awesome, 50% pretty good. Same with their second album. But I think their third album is total shit. Last month, the band tweeted "Yes this is different from our first album ya nerds. Get into it already. " My response: "What I don't like is that [the drummer] has been replaced by an 808. In fact, I'm not sure if any human held an instrument in the making of this album. It all sounds and feels programmed."

HIGH FIVE:

1. Out Of The Black
2. Figure It Out
3. Come On Over
4. Hook Line & Sinker
5. Lights Out

I'm really liking their new album, got a nice vibe to it.

I appreciate that you're interested in my thoughts on the new album. I've heard a good song from it, that got a lot of radio airplay. Mrs. Scotch really liked it. If she was still into buying albums, she would have.

That being said, I love, love, love Paul McCartney. I covered his music on pg 17 of my thread. We saw his Back in the USA tour. But I was done with his music before the 80s. I'm not a fan of his Jacko collaboration. And every 10 years for the past 40 years, he'd put out something new. But I'm all set.

Like I said, I liked the new song from him, and I'm sure he's still capable of making great music.

Based on the one new song I heard, I'm leaning towards sadchild's opinion. I immediately went out and bought their first album, but my interest has gone steadily downhill.

However, I respect a band that's willing to do new things, rather than keep putting out the same album over and over. So if you can separate the new sound from the fact that it's coming from Royal Blood...

I suspect if I was a teen in the 70s, I would've been into Wings and Macca solo more. And also into a lot of IRBS-type late 70s/early 80s hard rock (a la Triumph, Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult, Prism, Sweet and of course the almighty Stonebolt). Someone I work with is about 5-6 years older than me and we have a very precise split on hard rock preference, which lands right around 1982/1983. She prefers pre-"Big Money" Rush, pre-Pyromania Def Lep, pre-Lick It Up Kiss, etc where I'm on the other side of that line.

I agree about Royal Blood and respect trying something different. Sometimes a band makes a move like that and I love it, sometimes I hate it. Unfortunately I hate this particular instance. Fortunately Cleopatrick has immediately filled the void they left behind!

Royal Crescent Mob

Genre: white-boy funk rock

Discovered: co-worker in '89 who also got me into Scatterbrain and Lock Up (Tom Morello's pre-RATM band), he also tried to get me into Buck Pets but I didn't like 'em.

Other: A bit like 80s Chili Peppers, but a little tamer and a lot whiter. I wish I coulda been at this 1987 show!!

HIGH FIVE:

1. Pretty Good Life
2. Big Mistake
3. Konk
4. Timebomb
5. Goin' To The Hospital

NOTE: Their 1991 album (my top 4 are from it) is not on YouTube, despite being a Sire/Warner Brothers release. Three random songs from it are there, but only because some random fans did it. Their 1989 album is only on there because a fan put it up there. Their 1993 album (an indie release) is officially on there, but with the wrong album cover art from a different band. Anyway, the song below is my #4 song and it's only on YouTube because it was part of Volume 5 of the Just Say Yes compilations.

Ruby

Genre: trip hop, alt pop

Discovered: CMJ, of the 21 songs on it hers was the only I liked.

Other: Side 1 of her first album Salt Peter is great. There were only two good songs on the follow-up (#4 below is one of them).

HIGH FIVE:

1. Tiny Meat
2. Paraffin
3. Salt Water Fish
4. Grace
5. Flippin' Tha Bird
