Sadchild's "high fives" (every artist I like at least five songs from)

Which one? Perhaps I was there.
It was called Mark's Showplace in Bedford NH. Now it's called Millennium Cabaret (according to Google). A local promoter started booking national acts there. I opened for Prong, Drowning Pool, Misfits (without Danzig), Powerman 5000, Ra, Nothingface, Skindred, 10 Years, Nonpoint, God Forbid, Silent Civilian and other nationals there. It wasn't pay-to-play, but it was an agreement to sell a minimum amount of tickets to our fans to offset the cost of the national act. If he paid the national $5000, he'd have a few opening bands each sell $500 in tickets. The bands could keep the money after selling the minimum. So $20 a ticket, sell 40, give him $500 keep $300. I thought it was a great deal - and great exposure.

They're ok, but that one doesn't quite have a hook that calls out to me.
Their bass player went on to form Hellyeah with Mudvayne frontman Chad Gray and Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul, but got wasted at the CD release party and attacked the guitar player then made a gun threat (3 years after Paul's brother was shot on stage).
Some people can't help but trip over themselves.

NWA

Genre: hip hop

Discovered: a friend

Other: Great parody of NWA in the Chris Rock movie CB4.

Record Exec : Do you cuss on your records?
Albert : Yeah.
Record Exec : Do you defile women with your lyrics?
Albert : Yeah.
Record Exec : Do you fondle your genitalia on stage?
Albert : Whenever possible.
Record Exec : Do you glorify violence or advocate the use of guns as a way of solving a simple dispute?
CB4 : [pull out guns]
Record Exec : Ok! Ok! Final question. Do you guys respect anything at all?
CB4 : Not a goddamn thing.

Record Exec : You got a deal.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Just Don't Bite It
2. 100 Miles and Runnin'
3. Fuck Tha Police
4. Straight Outta Compton
5. Express Yourself

One Day As A Lion

Genre: alt rock, rap rock

Discovered: already knew Zack from RATM

Other: Only released on 5 song EP back in 2008. Those five songs are below. #2 is the one their most known for.

HIGH FIVE:

1. One Day As A Lion
2. Wild International
3. If You Fear Dying
4. Last Letter
5. Ocean View

One Minute Silence

Genre: nu metal

Discovered: don't remember, "Holy Man"

Other: Political, but not like RATM. More poetic, less "grab your musket and pitchfork". Wish I could have seen them live, but they're from the UK - not sure they ever came close to New England. Only their third album (and related b-sides) are on YouTube (officially). Probably a dead record label for their first two?

HIGH FIVE:

1. Holy Man
2. I Wear My Skin
3. Revolution
4. Fish Out Of Water
5. I Don't Want To Wear Your Gray

Only Living Witness

Genre: metal, radio metal, heavy rock

Discovered: college radio station WJUL (now WUML)

Other: I didn't see them in their active years (1990s) but did go to one of their three reunion shows in 2008 and they rocked the house!

HIGH FIVE:

1. Ninevah
2. December
3. Freaklaw
4. Prone Mortal Form
5. Strata

Orange 9mm

Genre: nu metal, rap rock

Discovered: don't remember, could've been CMJ (same disk I discovered Prozzak)

Other: One of many bands that I'm the only person I know who knows about them (well, until now I suppose). But they aren't nobodies, not an unsigned local or obscure act. They were signed to EastWest, then Atlantic, and had songs on CMJ and FQMB compilations.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Fire In The Hole
2. Driver
3. Magnet
4. When You Lie
5. Method

4 minutes seemed long for a song that starts that fast, then they threw in the Metallica tempo change before the solo. They even got the wah pedal right. Not too bad.

The name was a little familiar, but after listening to it, I'm thinking maybe not. At least not from that song. I would have liked a bit higher level of production on that track.

Orgy

Genre: electronic rock

Discovered: CMJ, same disc I discovered Incubus from and heard my second Kid Rock song on.

Other: Went to see them live on their debut album tour. The stage filled with smoke (dry ice) so you couldn't see anything. After a few minutes the strobe lights flashed for a split second, and the band was there in the haze like mannequins (you couldn't see them without the flash of light). The light flashed occasionally a few more times, then the lights came on full and band kicked into their set. It looked amazing.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Stitches
2. Blue Monday (New Order cover)
3. Vague
4. Opticon
5. Talk Sick

I like those guys. It's that big(and heavy) sound.
I thought I'd look for a video of the opening for the tour you were talking about. I didn't find that, but I found a rig rundown.
The one guy uses the same synth pedal that I use.

Otep

Genre: nu metal, rap metal

Discovered: CMJ, "Blood Pigs"

Other: Probably the most bad-ass, hardcore, anti-far-right, pro-LGBTQIA bitch (her own words) in the music industry. Her latest album starts with this:

Confederate flags flown at half-mast 'cause you called me a fag
And I snapped his neck back with a fist
Right-hook, that's all that it took
I told him I wasn't playing and I leave them shook
Cause traitor Trump's got 'em fucked up
Thinking they can speak that hate, but guess what?
His dominion's coming to an end
Hate won't make America great again
Fight, fight, fight, fight
Fuck the alt-right

HIGH FIVE:

1. To The Gallows
2. Halt Right
3. Blood Pigs
4. Apex Predator
5. Molotov

Outfield

Genre: pop rock, rock and roll

Discovered: MTV, "Say It Isn't So"

Other: Almost in the 'one good album' club. Debut is great. Sophomore was awful. Their next three albums all had a good lead single. I've always loved the line "61 seconds is all it takes for the nine-to-five man to be more than one minute late".

HIGH FIVE:

1. 61 Seconds
2. Your Love
3. Say It Isn't So
4. Voices Of Babylon
5. Closer To Me

I loved the debut CD. Back in the mid 80's when my brother got his first CD player (it was the first CD player most of us had seen) Play Deep was one of the first disks he bought.

Your Love was a song we played back in the day, and just started playing again., but in a much lower key.

Ozzy

Genre: pop rock, rock and roll

Discovered: MTV, "Bark At The Moon"

Other: I know his first two solo albums are considered classics, but I don't really listen to them. I prefer No Rest For The Wicked and No More Tears.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Hero
2. Mama I'm Coming Home
3. Bark At The Moon
4. Breaking All The Rules
5. No More Tears

Indeed! We dropped it from E all the way down to B.
I play the chord voicings so they still sound bright and snappy.
Its hysterical when you shift the pitch of the original recording to get it that low. He sounds like the scene in Old School when Will Ferrell got shot in the neck with the tranquilizer gun. It doesn’t sound that bad, for us that is.

Tony Lewis could still belt it out at the last live performances I found. He knew how to sing properly in his range without hurting himself.

Pantera

Genre: heavy metal

Discovered: friend

Other: Never was a die-hard Pantera fan (there were many in the 90s). I like 'em but don't love 'em. They were one of the bands that moved metal from high-pitched hair 'n spandex into what became 90s metal. All five songs are from Vulgar Display Of Power but they've got other good stuff too.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Fucking Hostile
2. A New Level
3. Walk
4. This Love
5. Mouth For War
