So my son and my last scheduled game was Wednesday. This was a close game and both clubs were pretty even. The Cubs were just slightly better on this night. They beat us 4-1. The game was marred with one horrific looking injury (I am relieved it is much less sever than it looked). This poor catcher was activated from the 60 day IL for this game and now is back on the 15 day IL.

As it turned out another team at my company got a bunch of tickets for today's afternoon game vs. the Cubs. They did not fill all the seats. So they made them available to other teams. I asked for one and got it. So I saw today's game as well. It was a tight game. Max Scherzer pitched into the 8th magnificently. He gave up only 1 solo HR. He was backed by some defensive plays as well such as this one:

The Cubs pitched Boyd whom debuted with the Jays in 2015 and was traded to the Tigers for David Price the same year. He is now a Cub and he pitched very well. The Jays managed only 3 hits in the game and only 2 off of him. They had one in the 3rd or 4th inning that was erased on a DP. We had a single in the 8th off the bullpen which we left stranded at 3rd. In the 7th Boyd issued his only BB of the game to lead off the inning. He was bunted to 2nd and then Vladdy hit the only other hit -- a 2 run HR.

This left a weird statistic after the game. The Cubs had 7 men LOB, the Jays only had 1. The Jays won 2-1.

The Jays won on Tuesday as well so they took 2/3 against the Cubs who from my vantage point match up pretty evenly against the Jays. Any of the games could have gone either way with a break here or there. Exciting series.

The Red Sox helped the Jays cause by losing 2/3 to Houston on the road. The Yankees kept pace by beating the Twins 2/3 at home.

So the Jays now lead the Red Sox by 5 and the Yankees by 6.5.

The Jays stay home and host a 3 game series against Texas. Boston hosts a 3 game series against the Marlins. The Yankees visit St. Louis for 3.

The Jays lead the Tigers by 1 game and the Astros by 2 games for AL best record.

Brewers beat Reds 6-5 in 11 innings for their franchise record 14th straight win. They have the best record in the major leagues right now.

I think the Brewers are becoming my Alternate National League Team since the Rockies are still stinking it up. That Rookie pitcher they have is pretty good.

Yesterday the Blue Jays beat the Rangers 14-2. Combined, the starting outffield went 10 for 12 with four home runs. Myles Schneider hit a home run. Daulton Varsho hit a home run. Davis Straw hit two home runs. According to sports analytics company Data Sports, this is the first game in MLB history in which each of a team's three starting outfielders hit a home run and reached base at least four times.

Weird statistic.

Also, in yesterday's game both the Blue Jays and the Rangers put position players on to pitch. Rowdy Tellez pitched for Texas while Henemin (our 2nd catcher) pitched the 9th for the Jays. With a 13 run lead he did not qualify for a save.

So the Jays took 2/3 against the Rangers this weekend. In addition to the blowout on Saturday, they came from behind scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 8th to overcome a 5-2 deficit on Friday. The Jays were 4-2 on this mini-home-stand.

Boston also took 2/3 against the Marlins at home while they Yankees swept the Cardinals in St. Louis.

The Jays continue to lead the division by 5 games over Boston and 5.5 over the Yanks. The lead the AL by 1 over Detroit and 3 over Houston.

The Jays spend the next week on the Road. First 3 in Pittsburgh and then 3 in Florida.
The Red Sox host Baltimore for 2 and then visit the Yankees for 4.
The Yankees visit Tampa for 2 then host the Red Sox for 4.

The Jays had a disappointing series against a shitty team losing 2/3 in Pittsburgh. The Red Sox lost both of their games against Baltimore. The Yanks won both of theirs against Tampa (a team which has turned into a real doormat). The Jays now lead the Yankees by 4 and the Red Sox by 5.5. The Yanks are only 3 back in the loss column.

The Jays head to Florida to face another crappy team (the ones they seem to have trouble with) for 3. Their trade acquisition from Cleveland starts on Friday. The Yankees host the Red Sox for 4.

Detroit now owns a 1 game lead for best record in AL. Houston is 4 games behind the Jays.

First off Colorado fans, I regret to inform you that you can now officially cancel your World Series parade plans. The Rockies have been eliminated from the post-season.

Until tonight, the New York Yankees owned a 8 game losing streak to the Boston Red Sox including the first 3 games of the current series in New York. They salvaged one tonight. This was helpful to the Jays as the Yankees were the lower team but it is always a good day when the Yankees lose.

The Jays won 2/3 against the Marlins. Beiber pitched very well on Friday in a win. They won and extra inning affair on Saturday and lost today.

The Jays lead the Red Sox by 5 and the Yankees by 5.5. They remain 1 game behind Detroit and 4 games up on Houston in overall standings.

The Jays return home for 3 against the Twins. My son and I grabbed some tickets for Monday's game. This will be followed by a 3 game series at home against the Brewers. The Red Sox travel to Baltimore for 4 games followed by 3 home games against Pittsburgh. The Yankees host Washington for 3 and then play the White Sox for 4 in Chicago.

Before I get into today's game, on Saturday the Jays sewed up another record in the almost infinite number of categories in the MLB record book. They became the first team in the modern era to blow leads in the 9th, 10th and 11th innings and still wind up winning the game. Yay us!

Tonight's game was against Minnesota. Their lineup was unrecognizable. They did a cleanup and they cleaned up good. The Twins were pitching their "ace" today. He had a respectable ERA and was 12-6. He did not have a good outing. He gave up 4 in the first and gave up a total of 6 over 5 innings. The Jays had Scherzer on the mound and he he pitched 6. He was solid over the first 5 giving up just 1 run. He ran into some trouble in the 6th and gave up 3 to make a game out of it. But the Jays exploded with 4 of their own against the Twins bullpen in the bottom of the inning and that accounted for all the scoring. They Jays won 10-4.

The Red Sox and Yankees both won as well so status quo. The Yankees held a 10-0 lead going into the top of the 9th and did everything they could to blow it. Wound up winning 10-5.

This in all likelihood will be our last game. My son wanted to see Scherzer pitch. He has now seen all the starters this year.

It was an ugly series against the Twins. They turned a win into a loss on Tuesday and turned a loss into a win today. The Red Sox have won the first 3 of 4 against Baltimore and the Yankees swept the Nationals. So Jays lead the Red Sox by 4 and the Yankees by 4.5.

The Jays host the Brewers for 3 starting Friday. The Red Sox play one more in Baltimore then host the Pirates for 3. The Yankees head to Chicago for 4 against the White Sox.

The Yankees and Red Sox schedule is considerably easier than the Jays over the remaining games. All 3 of the teams do face each other for 1 3 game set each over the last month. Jays have games in New York and home against Boston. Boston hosts New York and visits Toronto. Yankees visit Boston and host Toronto.

Jays and Tigers are tied at the top again each 4 games up on Houston.

The Jays lost 2/3 at home against the Brewers. Their bullpen seems to be having some issues. But they got a solid win today and now head for 3 on the road against Cincinnati. Boston also lost 2/3 at home against Pittsburgh. The Red Sox now host Cleveland for 3. The Yankees had a 7 game winning streak through doormat teams before finally losing to the White Sox today in Chicago. They head for 3 in Houston next.

The Jays are up by 3 on the Yankees and 3.5 on the Red Sox. They are tied in loss column with Detroit and up by 4 on Houston.

IRBS, you shouldn't have any problem reading copy-and-paste on DRC. :)

"The Toronto Blue Jays have been one of the league’s most pleasant surprises this year, currently sitting in first place in the AL East with one month remaining in the season. With Toronto likely headed back to the postseason after missing out in 2024, the team may need to explore internal options to close out games as veteran closer Jeff Hoffman has struggled significantly in recent weeks.

Hoffman signed a 3-year, $33 million contract with the Blue Jays in the offseason following an impressive two-year stint with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he earned an All-Star selection last year. Unfortunately, the 32-year-old has yet to live up to those expectations in Toronto, and his performance has dipped severely. Hoffman allowed just 30 earned runs across 2023–24, but during Saturday’s loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, he gave up three runs in the ninth inning – his 30th through 32nd earned runs of 2025, officially surpassing his total from the previous two seasons combined. Hoffman has also allowed 12 home runs in the ninth inning or later this season, setting a Blue Jays single-season record.

Fans voiced their frustration on X as Hoffman’s struggles directly contributed to a second straight loss. 'Hoffman’s ERA is up to 5.11 and he’s given up 14 HRs. He can’t just be pitching in an 8th- or 9th-inning role right now,' wrote MLB columnist Mike Harrington. 'How much evidence does Schneider need to see that Hoffman is cooked?' asked a fan. Another said, 'Shouldn’t pitch again in the 9th. Doesn’t have it.' 'Hoffman needs to be moved out of the closer’s role,' wrote one fan. 'The bullpen needs to get it together or it will be yet another short postseason,' added another.

Hoffman’s ERA has now ballooned to 5.11 across 59 appearances, and while he’s still striking out batters at a high rate (75 Ks in 56.1 innings), the inconsistency has become a liability. When asked by MLB.com's Keegan Matheson about Hoffman’s role moving forward postgame, manager John Schneider replied, 'He’s got 29 saves. He’s shown that he can do it. We’ve got to figure out, not just him but multiple guys, their strike throwing and locating. We’re going to make the best decision for everyone to try to win every single night.'

With October baseball looming, the Blue Jays could pivot to other options in the bullpen, including trade deadline acquisition Seranthony Dominguez or left-hander Yariel Rodriguez, both of whom have shown flashes of reliability in high-leverage spots. However, for the time being, Hoffman will retain the closer’s role."

They wound up winning 2/3 in Cincy but all 3 games were wild. They should have won all 3 but they blew a lead in the 9th giving up 3 on Monday. The Red Sox won 2/3 against Cleveland and the Yankees went to Houston and 1 2/3 there. The one they lost was wild. They went to the bottom of the 8th in a 4-4 tie (Yanks had lead 4-0 at one point). Houston loaded the bases and proceeded to score 3 runs by bases-loaded-walk, balk and passed ball. They added one more the boring way with a hit. They wound up winning 8-7.

Jays are playing tonight in New York for a 3 game set with the Yankees. The Red Sox are in Arizona for 3.

They Jays lead the division by 3 on the Yanks and 3.5 on the Red Sox. Detroit had a rough series with the Mets so Jays lead Detroit by 1 and Houston by 5 for AL lead.

Houston lost 2/3 but gained a game lead in the west. Seattle was swept by Tampa. Tampa is hot right now. They are 10+ games back but 8-2 over their last 10. They play the Jays 7 times over the last month. They play Boston 3 times. They are done with the Yankees.
