DRC Madness #23 - DRC All-Time Songs

"A Day In The Life" lost to "Burning Down The House" by Talking Heads in round 2 of Madness. And its the #2 song.

In A Million Dreams, P!nk sings about "special things I compile." In Respond/React, the Roots sing "I stampede your style, I'll compile, then bless." But there are no songs with "compile" in the title. Will you settle for "compilation"? This is by Psyckadeli, a Swedish rock band formed in 2005, from their 2018 CD Take It From The Top:

I was generally not surprised. "A Day In The Life" surprised me ... for a couple reasons. I rarely hear it mentioned here when people talk about great Beatles songs and I don't recall it at all from the Madness. I had really forgot it existed until I tallied the votes and saw it was #2. Hearing it I don't dispute that people like it or that it's #2 it's just something completely unexpected going in.
I can see how it was surprising, based on the Madness results; but A Day in the Life is always a top (or THE top) Beatles song on many lists.

"Imagine" is certainly a worthy #1. Not many songwriters were so able to summarize their entire belief system in a 3 minute song. It has staying power also, the younger generation mostly knows it too.

In 2017, National Music Publishers Association CEO David Israelite announced that Yoko Ono would be given a songwriting credit for Imagine "because of her inspiration and influence on the song." Huh??? She didn't write any of the lyrics – so why should she get any of the credit?

More than 500 artists have recorded Imagine including Diana Ross, Clodagh Rodgers, Roger Whittaker, Nana Mouskouri, Andy Williams, Sarah Vaughan, Joan Baez, Scott Bakula, Liza Minnelli, Des'ree, Lea Salonga, Ray Charles, Richie Havens, Bruce Hornsby, Blues Traveler, the Miracles and the Ray Conniff Singers. Here is a live performance by John Lennon at Madison Square Garden, 1972:

As I was counting down the songs, I was curious about how the artists would rank, the number of nominations and votes and combined strengths. I took the song data and compiled it into an artist list. The list is ordered by total points for the artist excluding artists who had only 1 entry. I did this for my own entertainment but If anyone is interested, I can count that down or just present it as a blob, There are 44 artists with multiple entries on the chart.

Yes, definitely interested. Either way.

Like I said, I think a side-by-side chart with the Madness results would be cool.

Well, despite lukewarm reception, and given that @WolFyre seems to be MIA again so no new madness looks to be coming, I will share the artists unMadness results.

I took each song's artist in the unMadness and added the points for that song to the artist. Once done, I filtered out artists with only 1 song and sorted the total points. Note that I did count songs with 0 votes as a song so some artists are in the list because they have a second unvoted song. Also note that songs with 2 contributing artists count once for each artist. "Islands In the Stream" counts for Kenny Rogers AND Dolly Parton (and in that case gave them each a single entry).

Tiebreakers:
0. Total points
1. Were number of nominated song
2. Highest unMadness ranking.
3, Remained tied.

There are 44 artists with more than 1 song. Most with 2 or 3 songs. 1 each with 4, 5 and 6.

And now 41-44:

#44: Depeche Mode [2 songs, 34 points, tiebreaker: 0]
#43: U2 [3 songs, 37 points, tiebreaker: 0]
