"A Day In The Life" lost to "Burning Down The House" by Talking Heads in round 2 of Madness. And its the #2 song.
I can see how it was surprising, based on the Madness results; but A Day in the Life is always a top (or THE top) Beatles song on many lists.I was generally not surprised. "A Day In The Life" surprised me ... for a couple reasons. I rarely hear it mentioned here when people talk about great Beatles songs and I don't recall it at all from the Madness. I had really forgot it existed until I tallied the votes and saw it was #2. Hearing it I don't dispute that people like it or that it's #2 it's just something completely unexpected going in.
As I was counting down the songs, I was curious about how the artists would rank, the number of nominations and votes and combined strengths. I took the song data and compiled it into an artist list. The list is ordered by total points for the artist excluding artists who had only 1 entry. I did this for my own entertainment but If anyone is interested, I can count that down or just present it as a blob, There are 44 artists with multiple entries on the chart.
Like I said, I think a side-by-side chart with the Madness results would be cool.As I was counting down the songs, I was curious about how the artists would rank, the number of nominations and votes and combined strengths. Good thing The The didn't make the list.Note: If I miss adding a "The" to an artist, my apologies, To make sure I got an accurate count, when I entered int he spreadsheet I removed the The so I would count songs for "The Cure" and "Cure" in case they were entered that way. I am re-entering the "The"s when I am posting here.
