DRC Madness #23 - DRC All-Time Songs

I'm getting depressed thinking about the age of certain singers. Tom Jones and Barbra Streisand are 80. Dionne Warwick and Frankie Avalon are 81. Dion is 82. Connie Stevens is 83. Connie Francis is 84. Buddy Guy and Freddy Cannon are 85. Johnny Mathis, Clarence Carter, Kris Kristofferson and Engelbert Humperdinck (not his real name) are 86. Nana Mouskouri is 87. Willie Nelson and Quincy Jones are 89. Loretta Lynn is 90. And most of these artists are still performing!

About 10 years ago my wife and I went to see April Wine and Glass Tiger in concert. I had seen April Wine once in about 1980. It was my second concert and the big thing then was it was one of the first with primarily reserved seating. The Who concert in Cincinnati in 1979 had pretty much ended general admission. But they had a small section where people could dance and hang out around the stage. It was filled with hot young chicks if I remember correctly.

Flash forward, we go to the show and there are people with walkers and oxygen tanks being seated in the audience. My wife and I were one of the youngest people there. There was also an area in front of the stage for dancing and hanging out. It was filled with old grey haired ladies. The band was none too young either. That was my first realization that time is always moving even in the world of rock and roll.

Didn’t you see Bob Seger and the Centrum Silver Band a couple of years ago?
Was the opening act Murder She Wrote?

Well as they say on a countdown when you hear last weeks #1 song before the #1 position ... heading to a brand new #1 song. Seeing the video reminds me of his 2003 concert. This song was incredible there.

1-4 tomorrow morning.

And any predictions for the #1?

Is that the number one?
Is that just fantasy?
It did beat out Landslide
And it beat Let It Be
Open your eyes
Look here tomorrow and see
I'm a poor guesser, I won't make a guess
It's not easy to guess which song is the best
Songs I hate rank high, songs I like rank low,
Whichever song is number one doesn't really matter to me
To me

It doesn't really matter
It doesn't matter anymore
It doesn't really matter
Unless it's one I voted for

Bohemian Rhapsody is top 4 for sure, I'd say. I'll guess that.
That would be my guess too. And while you're here (well you were here earlier), I was reviewing the songs as ranked by IRBS (because all his hard work deserves another look), and I noticed you nominated Tracks of My Tears by Smokey Robinson, but not Tears of a Clown. I think the latter would've done much better.

Good guess, It is indeed in the top 4.

#4: 128 POINTS (1 song)

Madness Position: #3
The final of our #1s.

And that is it. Thanx again @WolFyre for supplying me the list and the nominations and for hosting the Madness that made this unMadness possible. And thanx to @sadchild for ordering the top 33 madness picks to which I refer.

With this crowd you're probably right.
Overall though, I see Tracks as the more highly regarded song in the Rolling Stone Top 500 and such, plus a personal preference for that one.

Well done, IRBS. Not too surprised with the songs that did well.
I was generally not surprised. "A Day In The Life" surprised me ... for a couple reasons. I rarely hear it mentioned here when people talk about great Beatles songs and I don't recall it at all from the Madness. I had really forgot it existed until I tallied the votes and saw it was #2. Hearing it I don't dispute that people like it or that it's #2 it's just something completely unexpected going in.
