My two cents for the week:
34. PARANOIMIA - THE ART OF NOISE WITH MAX HEADROOM
I used to love this. I was so off the wall.
28. MONEYS TOO TIGHT TO MENTION - SIMPLY RED
I discovered this was a remake of an unknown R&B group. It was always peculiar to hear Mick Hucknall singing about politics in the US.
24. BABY LOVE - REGINA
I thought this was Madonna at first, but that may have been the point.
23. EARTH ANGEL - NEW EDITION
I'm surprised Beavis didn't make an appearance here.
19. I DIDN'T MEAN TO TURN YOU ON - ROBERT PALMER
This was a remake by Cherelle. She showed up on the 40 with a few duets with Alexander O'Neal later down the road.
13. ALL CRIED OUT - LISA LISA & CULT JAM
The song didn't bother me back then, but I wouldn't listen to it now. Lisa Lisa's voice isn't strong enough for a ballad, but I appreciate the duet which is something not seen much in today's music scene.
10. DANCING ON THE CEILING - LIONEL RICHIE
So cheesy…
Will never make the top 40
There were a lot of solid R&B tracks lurking: #52, #57, #58, #71, etc….
#59 Jermaine Stewart "Jody"
This song was about Jody Watley, who was his best friend. Also, it sounded like he sang "Tigers on the left, sharks on the right". This is not remotely correct. It was diamonds and stars which made me chuckle when I found out.
#62 Pet Shop Boys "Love Comes Quickly"
I'm not sure I knew this one was released as a single.
#79 Doctor And The Medics "Spirit In The Sky"
This was a UK#1. I don't remember seeing the video, but it looks like he's imitating Pete Burns.
#88 Ashford & Simpson "Count Your Blessings"
I was surprised to see this on the 100.
