Good 8
Okay 7
Bad 25

I liked more in the bottom 60 than in the top 40.

35: LISTEN TO YOUR HEART – ROXETTE

My guess at #1. Nina said this was the second single from the album, it was actually the third. Third to chart in the US anyway.

20: BUST A MOVE – YOUNG M.C.

Mark called the album Stone Cold Platinum. It's Stone Cold Rhymin'. And it was certified Platinum.

19: IT’S NOT ENOUGH - STARSHIP

I mistook it for Richard Marx "Angelia" for the first 5 seconds.

5: SHOWER ME WITH YOUR LOVE - SURFACE

4: HANGIN’ TOUGH – NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK

My friend's son guessed this would be #1

2: GIRL I’M GONNA MISS YOU – MILLI VANILLI

My friend's old roommate guessed this would be #1. We all missed it. And I did the worst by far.

#63 Bad English "Forget Me Not"

Shoulda made the 40

#76 White Lion "Little Fighter"

Yeah, I mean the Not Top 40 list does more for me than the actual countdown. Cinderella didn't make the Top 40? Shocking!

#74 Adrian Belew "Oh Daddy"
Not a surprise. Adrian is great, and doesn't get enough respect, but he doesn't really write for the radio anyway.
#81 Cinderella "Gypsy Road"
A little bit of a surprise.
#86 Indigo Girls "Closer to Fine"
A big surprise.
#88 Bulletboys "Smooth Up"
Sort of a surprise, but they were right at the tail end of the hair thing. I still loved that album though.
#97 Call "Let The Day Begin"
That's a crime. Such a great song.

Good Lord, that list of songs is grim. And people wonder how "alternative" music became so big just a couple years later?

One amusing memory that came up after reading that death march of a chart...around this time, a friend of mine & I wound up babysitting the 3 year old daughter of his girlfriend at the time. And she was running around all day, shouting "JEWISH!!!!!" "JEWISH!!!!!" "JEWISH!!!!!". We just kept looking at each other like...the hell? Not only why does she keep shouting the word, but how does she even know that word at 3 years old? It's not like her family had a Jewish background or anything like that.

Eventually, the latest Madonna video came on MTV in the background. And this little girl RAN up to the tee vee, screaming "JEWISH!!!!!" "JEWISH!!!!!" "JEWISH!!!!!"

In her 3 year old jibberish speak, "Cherish" came out "Jewish". And you better believe ever since that day, that song has always been "Jewish" to me.

This is one of the weakest charts I've seen. I had maybe 13 out of the bunch. A shift occurred to more poppy, generic songs near the end of the decade. I wish I could pinpoint when this occurred. I listened to an AT40 episode from August of 1990 this week and things were further downhill.

@sadchild: I agree the "Will never reach top 40' is much more intriguing.

I'm surprised to see #49 Chuckii Booker "Turned Away" so close to the forty and #69 Vesta "Congratulations" and 70 Christopher Williams "Talk To Myself" seem a bit out of place. #88 Bullet boys "Smooth Up" was one of my favorites along with "For the Love of Money".

Liked the first album (just listened to it today for the first time in probably 5 years). Didn't like the first two songs I heard off of the second one (anything about THC generally turns me off) and just kinda stopped following them at that point as alternative became the mainstream.

The album with the THC song ( which was an awful choice for first single ) - "Freak Show" - is probably my favorite of theirs.

And their 3rd album "Zaza" is hit or miss, but has their most outta left field song..."Mine" which you'll swear was peak of their powers Journey.

The PAD data on this week's countdown is screwy. Most of the songs don't have artist/title. Some of Nina's banners say 1989 for a 1981 countdown. Whomever puts these countdowns together did a really shitty job. And for about the 5th week in a row Marc Goodman sounds like he is popping bubble wrap while speaking into the mic. Someone tell him to fix his equipment.

My guess at #1 is below. I will put the spoiler tag in case anyone wants to be surprised. I also don't want to blow @sadchild 's opportunity to guess in his weekly game with his friends. Although he could probably use the help from what I can tell.
Endless Love *puke* In 1981 there were basically 3 number 1 songs: early summer: Betty Davis Eyes, late summer/early fall: Endless Love, late fall: Physical (although that is counted as a 1982 song).
