Will never reach the top 40
#63 John Mellencamp "Rooty Toot Toot"
I don't remember hearing that song at all.36. WHEN WE KISS - BARDEUX
I'm surprised that this dodn't at least hit 40.#77 New Order "Blue Monday 1988"
I wouldn't have thought it would have made the chart at all. I liked it, but it wasn't a very commercial track for Dave.#96 David Lee Roth "Stand Up"
Will never reach the top 40
#84 U2 "New Year's Day"
Will never reach the top 40
#86 Dexy's Midnight Runners "The Celtic Soul Brothers"
I wouldn't know where to begin with a list, or how to trim it down to my top 500.I have a list of my 500 (or so) favorite songs of all time, spanning 6 decades of music. Most countdowns, none of my favorite songs of all time show up. Sometimes there's one or two. Rarely there's three or four. This one has twelve!
Having a list is one thing. Making the connection is another. Impressive. Here's a chunk of my list, you can see four of them in it:
One of my favorite albums. Rabin is a monster.126 Yes "Changes"
This album was a game changer for me. It was massive.133 Nine Inch Nails "Head Like A Hole"
Love that song!140 Suicidal Tendencies "Send Me Your Money"
This would have been on my list.#73 Berlin "The Metro"
This is one of those great songs that I don't get to hear enough.#96 Planet P "Why Me?"
What a dick. The mod kept insulting me, my opinions and my choices of songs.
That's what we're here for.Yep. I'm that nerdy.
That, and sometimes the longer, prog-orchestral, extended jams are just too much work. They can require too much attention sometimes and a shorter song that just gets to the point of it, really hits the spot.I feel about 91025 the same way I feel about Rush 'Hold Your Fire'. For both bands, their previous work in the 70s was a lot more organic and the songs had more complexity. But I still like 90125/Big Generator (and Hold Your Fire) more because (1) lyrically they connect with me more, and (2) it's the perfect sweet spot between being "out-there-super-proggy" and "just pure pop". Those albums retain the character of the band, and break ground in their own ways, but also step closer to the mainstream just enough to allow for mass appeal.
Good 11
Okay 7
Bad 22
I was also pleasantly surprised by how many songs I liked on this 88 countdown, usually I like about 5. BTW is this the first time they've done a June 1988 countdown? They've done May, but I don't think they've done June (until now)?
36. WHEN WE KISS - BARDEUX
My first time hearing this song. It sucks. But some interesting trivia though: One of the two girls from this group later went onto gangsta rap, signing to Eazy-E's label (she said in 1990 Dr Dre punched her in the mouth and the eye), then she formed two heavy metal bands.
When she was a rapper, she dissed the other girl in Bardeux:
So how does it feel to slut your way to a deal
I don't sell my body for money or a meal
And the name I use is real
What the fuck is Acacia?
It's a name of a tree
Look up Tairrie B
You'll see the definition is Ruthless, rival, your enemy
Get off my tip, you ain't no friend to me
How you feel, you look real sick, not sexy
More like anorexic (You on that diet called crack?)
It's either that or smack 'cause your body is wack
Put a little meat on your bone
Pick up a fork and drop the microphone
19. THE FLAME - CHEAP TRICK
My guess at #1 this week.

1. ONE MORE TRY - GEORGE MICHAEL
The other person picked this one.

Every line the guy sang ended with an "ah."Glass Tiger hit the top 40 four times actually, something even I didn't realize. I knew both top 10s "Don't Forget" and "Someday", but I just assumed this was their 3rd and final. Nope, they also have a song "I Will Be There" that made it too. I couldn't hum it to ya, but apparently it exists.
@sadchild@seasalt43
I lol'ed at "it sounds like an extended 1-900 commercial to me now." Perfect description!
Nice catch with #99 and #36 - ships passing in the night that would later crash into each other!
