My two cents for the week (below): The 1980 and 1981 countdowns are interesting in general because they're post-disco and pre-MTV.
40. NEVER KNEW LOVE LIKE THIS BEFORE - STEPHANIE MILLS
The was one of two appearances for Stephanie. She had a string of R&B hits throughout the 80s.
36. THE WANDERER - DONNA SUMMER
Interesting to see Donna start to step away from disco.
35. HEY NINETEEN - STEELY DAN
Great song!!! Can't go wrong with these guys.
33. DREAMING - CLIFF RICHARD
28. SUDDENLY - CLIFF RICHARD & OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN
Interesting to see two Cliff Richard tracks on the countdown. He was much more popular in the UK.
32. I LOVE A RAINY NIGHT - EDDIE RABBITT
This popped up on a friend's Pandora recently and I have forgotten how good this song is.
25. CELEBRATION - KOOL & THE GANG
This was the song for the 1982 Cardinals winning the World Series. It was played non-stop.
21. THEME FROM THE DUKES OF HAZARD - WAYLON JENNINGS
I watched this series every week as a kid and used to sing the song at the beginning of the show.
20. THE TIDE IS HIGH - BLONDIE
I was unaware that is was a remake until recently.
19. EVERYBODY'S GOT TO LEARN SOMETIMES - THE KORGIS
I didn't remember this one either, but it's not bad.
17. WHIP IT - DEVO
I think this was released later for some reason.
13. TELL IT LIKE IT IS - HEART
@sadchild - I'm glad Beavis made an appearance.
3. ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST- QUEEN
This got radio airplay on R&B stations as well.
1. LADY - KENNY ROGERS
Hmmm...has Beavis ever made an appearance for a number #1 record?
Won't reach the top 40
#66 Teddy Pendergrass "Love T.K.O."
This was a quiet storm classic. Another guy made a version around the same time which was interesting.
#82 Supertramp "Breakfast In America"
Underrated band.
#84 Rupert Holmes "Morning Man"
Rupert was fighting against the one hit wonder moniker at this point.
