Here's my two cents for the week:

38: TWO PEOPLE - TINA TURNER
Not a strong single in my opinion.

34: FOR TONIGHT - NANCY MARTINEZ
I had to look this one up. I remembered once I heard it. Nice to have a dance track thrown into the fray.

33: GOLDMINE - THE POINTER SISTERS
I didn't remember this one.

29: YOU BE ILLIN' - RUN-D.M.C.
They blocked the one hit wonder curse with this one.

22: AT THIS MOMENT - BILLY VERA & THE BEATERS
I remember this one played on Family Ties.

21: SOMEDAY - GLASS TIGER
They continued their success in Canada. I listened to a few and they weren't bad.

17: YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU….DON'T YOU? - HOWARD JONES
Nice to see Howard again. :)

16: LAND OF CONFUSION - GENESIS
This video was played non-stop.

5: SHAKE YOU DOWN - GREGORY ABBOTT
Gregory faded away pretty quickly. I found a clip of his follow-up, I Got The Feelin' (It's Over), performed on a Dutch show.

Won't reach the top 40
#41 Freddie Jackson "Tasty Love"
This one is interesting because it peaked at #41. The song is typical Freddie.

(#42 - #56 all reached the top 40!)
Very interesting!

#57 Jesse Johnson & Sly Stone "Crazay"
Stepping out on his own away from the Time.

#72 Grace Jones "I'm Not Perfect"
Too bad Grace wasn't bigger. The video was this song was amazing.

#74 Commodores "Goin' To The Bank"
Fun song, but not top 40 worthy in my opinion.

#75 Stacy Lattisaw "Nail It To The Wall"
She had a few top 40 hits in the early 80s.

#84 Pet Shop Boys "Suburbia"
Great song.

#92 Secret Ties "Dancin' In My Sleep"
@sadchild - I found a little information on them: Secret Ties | Biography & History | AllMusic

#98 KBC Band "It's Not You, It's Not Me"
I had to look them up.

#99 Midnight Star "Midas Touch"
I used to get them mixed up with Atlantic Starr.

So for the Top 1000 end of decade spectacular, my friend's son, his roommate and I all took guesses at the top song for each year.

1980: We all guessed "Call Me" #1

1981: We all guessed "Bette Davis Eyes" #1

1982: We all guessed "Physical" #1

1983: We all guessed "Every Breath" #1

1984: The other two guessed "When Doves Cry" #1. I guessed "Karma Chameleon" #10

1985: The other two guessed "Careless Whisper" #1. I guessed "Money For Nothing" #8

1986: We all guessed "That's What Friends" #1

1987: We all guessed "Walk Like An Egyptian" #1

1988: Roommate guessed "Faith" #1. Son guessed "Roll With It' #10. I guessed "Groovy Kind Of Love" #29

1989: I chose "Wind Beneath" #1. The other two guessed "Look Away" #7
EDIT: I GOT THOSE BACKWARDS. WIND WAS #7. LOOK AWAY WAS #1.

His roommate got 9 right. His son got 8 right. I got 7 right.
His roommate got ALL 10 right. His son got 9 right. I got 6 right.

I knew the first three immediately. And I knew 87 because Alan Hunter said it on the previous VJ40 for 86 (I think I would have done horribly if he hadn't).

I had a couple other potentials for 83 until I remembered "Every Breath", then I knew I had it right.

The other five I struggled with. I finally had to eenie meenie miney mo the potentials I came up with.

With 86 I had 7 potentials and fortunately picked the right one.

With 84, "When Doves Cry" was one of my 3 potentials. Oops.

But 88 was my worst. I struggled to come up with just 4 potentials, and one of them was even the wrong year ("Every Rose"). My best guess was "Roll With It" #10, but I didn't go with it.

Yeah I've never met my friend's old college roommate. But he scores a lot of #1's on the VJ40s. And now he's gotten all 10 right on the top 1000. Suspicious, but whatever. I enjoy actually trying to guess so I can enjoy the victory (when I'm not way the hell off!)

I do believe that my friend's son legitimately got 9 right. I've had conversations with him and his knowledge of 80s music is astounding.

I was happy to get 6 lol

Good 9
Okay 4
Bad 27

We just heard a lot of these songs last month. I mean don't do 1980 in December, then 1981 in January. Come on, people, think it through.

37. Donna Summer - Cold Love

First time hearing this one? Doesn't sound familiar to me at all.

16. Kool & The Gang - Celebration

My guess at #1

9. Kenny Rogers - Lady

1. John Lennon - Starting Over

Choice of my friend's son. And his roommate. And IdRatherBeSkiing too.

#44 Queen "Need Your Loving Tonight"

Don't know if I've ever heard this song. Doesn't sound familiar at all.

#82 Willis "The Guard" & Vigorish "Merry Christmas In The NFL"

Big time WTF! It's basically the Monster Mash with new lyrics written (and performed) by Buckner & Garcia about Christmas & football.

#86 Sky "Toccata"

Prog rock space-age interpretation of Bach.

Will never make the top 40
