Why not do this anyway? Couldn't you work elsewhere with a comparable salary then also be getting your pension?
Yes. And it doesn't even need to be at a comparable salary. But when I've considered this, I always arrive at this conclusion: if I'm going to keep working, I'd prefer to keep working 100% from home, rather than 100% on-site. There's just no comparison. Aside from that, there are many other factors:
- I already know what I'm doing here, and I'm very much needed.
- I interviewed with another company right before covid. There's an attitude you need to have, like an aggressive go-getter thing, and I'm past that point in my career.
- Starting over at this point is not something that I'm into.
So if they demanded that I work on-site, I'd certainly find other work. But I really like not having a commute, and not being away from home all day. I get up, shower, grab a cup of coffee, and walk upstairs to start my day. I have breakfast whenever I want. I can take breaks, and let the dogs out. I walk at lunchtime, then make myself something. I can take my lunch to the beach if I want. I can work a full day, or cut-out early. On the work Fridays, I always do a hike with Mrs. Scotch and the dogs.
It's 3 years. I can be happy working from home, while being frustrated that I'm delaying my pension. Or I can have a daily commute and work in an office (or in a shipyard) all day, and be miserable for 3 years, while being happy that I'm getting my pension.
