My thoughts on today's show:
He said a lot of nothing about Bill Maher. "I don't know whether he's racist or not". "He was trying to be funny - not racist - but it wasn't funny, and it was unnecessary". This, coming from a guy who's uttered every unnecessary word ever created. ***Insanity Alert*** Robin actually provided the most reasonable analysis, when she said that none of these words can be evaluated by themselves, you have to look at the context.
Kevin Hart is incredibly unfunny when being interviewed.

Neither Howard nor Robin nor anyone else mentioned the fact that "field nigger" and "house nigger" were expressions from era of Southern cotton plantations and slaves. So Maher was trying to make a funny, edgy historical allusion but no one seems to be into funny, edgy historical allusions these days.

As I said, they said a lot of nothing. It would've been nice if one of them referenced this, and had more of an informed discussion.
I'm sure that some of what was going through Bill's mind, was that the republicans are the slave owners, and the democrats are the slaves, in a tongue-and-cheek way. He's trying to have an intelligent political discussion, while injecting humor - so that people remain entertained - all while airing live.

Listening to Howard recounting the history to his 9/11 dispute with Bill Maher. It is essentially inaccurate. At the time Maher said that the 9/11 terrorists were monsters but you can't call them cowards since they gave up their lives. Howard claims that at the time he merely disagreed with Bill on the definition of "cowards". That's not what happened. Howard definitely did more than merely express an opinion. He went on repeated rants against Maher. If I recall correctly, he distorted it into Maher calling them heroic.

This is exactly right. Also, Maher said that it doesn't take any heroics to launch cruise missiles from a thousand miles away, and that was distorted by Howard to imply that Maher was calling our military servicemen cowards.

i like carrey but i will likely FF because new howard will not be asking about his STDs he gave his old GF before she offed herself. there was a time when howard would be the only interviewer to have the balls to ask those questions but not anymore. this makes me sad and as a result i'd rather not hear the interview at all.

What about when he broke up with Jenny McCarthy and didn't contact her autistic son in years despite forming a relationship with him during the dating? Poor kid didn't know what was going on. Bet that wasn't mentioned either.

Who the hell would bring up not staying in touch with Jenny McCarthy's autistic stepson? How do you work that in? She is kind of nutty when it comes to that son. Remember her TV crusade against vaccinations? She talked like she was a scientist.

I agree with the others, that the old Howard would've brought all these topics up. But in the past, when he'd do that, it didn't necessarily guarantee that the guest would say anything useful.
It's just the hypocrisy of Howard doing the same hot-button avoidance that he criticized with other interviewers.
