They almost went way with Windows 7, yes, but they are on the rise with the roll-out of SSDs. If you don't keep the firmware updated (you should be doing that though) then it is more likely that you will see a BSOD. With that said, I have yet for Windows 7 to give me a hint about what caused a BSOD or even recognize that the issue happened, once restarted. I have the logging turned on and it doesn't even create the log. They have all been caused by SSDs so maybe that is the reason, Windows 7 can't handle it.
 
I can't remember the last time I saw a BSOD. I've never seen one on Vista or 7, and I run those on 3 PCs. My home desktop has an Intel SSD with zero problems.

I see people who are excited by a tablet with am i5 in it. What do they plan to do with it? Get rid of their desktop or laptop? I guess if they currently use a laptop that could make sense. The Surface Pro is just a thinner laptop with a touchscreen from their perspective.

For me, tablets are a whole new paradigm. I've added a new form factor to my arsenal of computers. It doesn't replace any of the others. I never got into laptops, though.

I've only heard of them on Crucial or OCZ drives, for the most part. I personally have only seen them with Crucial. I have two OCZ drives and one Crucial. My parents have a Crucial and it has only happened on their drive yet a Google search will give you many examples of it happening. Supposedly it happens to the Intel 520 series drives but it doesn't seem to be as big of an issue with those as it is with Crucial. Crucial and OCZ actually put out a firmware fix specifically addressing BSODs (search SandForce BSOD).
 
Microsoft can market hardware. They managed to overtake the PS3, which had better specs than the 360.

So, they CAN do it. But WILL they?

I like the idea of ports. iPads befuddle me for their lack of ports. ;)
 
Ports are passé. Everything is wireless now.

I love Microsoft keyboards, btw. I've got them at work and at home.

Thats what I love about my Xoom. I have HDMI that we used a few times. I love the MicriSD slot. My wife takes lots of pictures of our daughter and we just slide in the sd card and there ya go. Plus its nice having that SD card slot for more storage. I paid $199 for this thing and I love it! That was the sweet spot for me.

This. I have 2 Android tablets, an iPad and an iPhone. I have never had the need to plug anything into any of these misc. ports on the Android tablets.

While some people may find a use for them, these added ports are mostly for marketing purposes to try to make the device look better than one without.

It's kinda like a desktop/laptop needing a floppy drive. Some users may use the drive but they could also do just as well, without.

I'm one that wants ports. I think hooking up HDMI, display port, keyboard or expanding internal memory with micro HD cards are all things I would use.

That just marking hype, but the reality is that most folks NEVER use them.

I paid $199. My buddy Dan bought bought a Galaxy Tab for $500. There was no extra charge for those options. Most of the Android Tabs that are around $500 have a lot of those things standard so your not paying anymore for them.

No need to get upset. I'm just saying that there's no free lunch. Every penny spent on a port is a penny not spent elsewhere, or a penny passed on in the price, or a penny subtracted from the profit. Given that everyone in the tablet market's margins are thin, that usually means a penny not spent elsewhere, like on the battery or display.

Dude I'm not mad or upset. I just don't under stand why you or anyone else thinks having options is bad? Still its $500. That seems to be the sweet spot for a lot of people. So what if other companies give them a port or 2. It's nice to have different companies doing different things. Myself I would never pay that much. I like my Xoom but I don't use it enough.

Options are good for everyone. Most people don't care and get an iPad. Some people like me do care and buy something different. Buy what you like.

You sound a little upset.

True, it's $500, but that's not the whole story. To get to that $500 price point, Asus has to make a lot of decisions. When they decide to include ports, they have to leave out something else. Can you see how that works?
