eowWA-AA-AA-AA!
I always wondered how that was spelled.

Good song.

#268 Helmet "Unsung"

One of my earliest introductions to what would become the heavy-rock/alt-metal sound of the 90s - not specifically grunge or nu-metal, but bands like Helmet, Quicksand, Tool, Corrosion Of Conformity, Prong (Cleansing), etc. When I first heard it, I remember thinking "Is this the new Ozzy?"

That's my vibe right there. It's an instant channel changer (as in change-to) when I see that it's on a different station, it's hard not to tune it in.

One thing I like about these songs is that they are heavy, but the singers aren't screaming at you the whole time. A lot of the vocals are very melodic and almost pretty.

#265 KMFDM "Waste"

KMFDM is one of those groups that releases an album and I absolutely love 2 or 3 songs, and the rest do nothing for me. I generally like their singles the best (Virus, Drug Against War, Juke Joint Jezebel, Power, Krank), but my two favorites happen to be deep album tracks.

KMFDM is the shiz! I love em. They are like Rob Zombie and can just ride their own groove. A heavy, wild, smutty groove.
I had a ticket to see them in Chicago back in 95 at a big concert that had Duran Duran / Faith No More / Bush / Collective Soul / Sheryl Crow / The Stone Roses / The Flaming Lips / Sponge, but my car broke down and I couldn't get there. I was soo pissed.

That's the best description of KMFDM I've ever heard! That sucks you didn't get to see them. I saw them at Avalon in Boston back in '97. Great show! Thought I did see them again a few years later with 16Volt and we left in the middle of KMFDM's set because they didn't have their mojo on that night.

#264 Tori Amos "Baker Baker"

Little Earthquakes is one of my favorite albums of all time. Five of those songs will show up on the 333. Her next album Under The Pink was a disappointment (there were more good b-sides than album tracks). However, between the disappointing songs (God, Past The Mission, The Wrong Band) and the simply bizarre ones (Waitress, Space Dog) are some great ones (Cornflake Girl, Icicle, and this one).

Man, do I love Helmet. For whatever stupid reason, I never saw them live until last year. But it was a "30 years/30 songs/No Opener" tour in a 250-ish capacity venue, so it was a good way to see 'em.

I wasn't aware of Amos until this album, and then I bought her next two. I like some of the songs you mentioned. She was a child prodigy on piano.

:hatsoff:
Thanks. It's all part of the service.

With as electronic as they are, that surprises me that can have a bad night like that. If anything, I would have thought they might have had a tendency to sound kind of stiff live. I'm glad that it's a "live experience" with them. Sorry they were off that night.

With Rush, I tend to be the opposite of most. My favorite album is Hold Your Fire, and my understanding is it is generally disliked due to the amount of keyboards...? My fav songs are post-Moving Pictures like The Big Money, Force Ten, Show Don't Tell, Stick It Out, Cold Fire and Test For Echo. I don't listen to much before Distant Early Warning, which is the first song of theirs I got into.

Rush will show up one more time. And yes it's post-Moving Pictures (and not listed in the above paragraph).

#263 Rush "Nobody's Hero"

The lyrics. Man, do I wish I could convey such a powerful point so perfectly in my own.

I like it, but it’s not a favorite.
It has a sincerity (lyrically) that you don’t often hear from them. Its more of a personal story than usual.

I liked it when they started to get heavier again over the last few albums, but really missed the hook and textures from the middle career.
#262 Michael Jackson "Human Nature"

12 year old me loved this song. 49 year old me still has a soft spot for it, even if I don't go out of my way for it much anymore.

Meh. It’s a channel changer for me.

#261 Police "Wrapped Around Your Finger"

Scylla, Charibdis, Mephistopheles, alabaster... Back in the 80s, I needed an encyclopedia to try and figure out what the hell he was talking about. And my interpretation of it (eager young student surpasses old philosopher who gave up his quest to learn the mysteries of existence after his marriage) is probably wrong. But I still love it for its imagery and smooth, dreamy sound.

My favorite rhyme is John Hiatt's A Thing Called Love, when he rhymes amoeba with queen of sheeba. That's some deep thought.
