Sadchild's "high fives" (every artist I like at least five songs from)

90

Ice Cube

Genre: hip hop, gangsta rap

Discovered: knew him from NWA

Other: Found this interesting: from Architectural Digest - "Before N.W.A.—the seminal rap group he was a member of—broke big with Straight Outta Compton in 1988, he was hunkering down at the Phoenix Institute of Technology, where he studied architectural drafting." Nice house, who designed it? Ice Cube.

HIGH FIVE:

1. It Was A Good Day
2. Check Yo Self (Remix)
3. You Can Do It
4. Givin' Up The Nappy Dugout
5. No Vaseline

Ice-T

Genre: hip hop, gangsta rap

Discovered: music video on the street.....

Other: Walked by one of those 5 foot tall boxes with a TV in it that movie theaters in Manhattan would put out on the street to play trailers, and this music video was playing.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Colors
2. The Girl Tried To Kill Me
3. OG Original Gangster
4. Lethal Weapon
5. Peel Their Caps Back

This is the radio version. I like it more than the uncensored because the talk between verses is better. But the artwork is wrong. For whatever reason, this guy uploaded the song and put Eazy-E as the image...?

Ill Nino

Genre: nu metal, latin metal

Discovered: don't remember

Other: Sepultura was the first metal band I'd ever heard that mixed metal with Latin/South American music. Then came bands like Nonpoint, Puya, Soulfly and these guys. Their best known song is probably #3 below, the first track on the 2003 film soundtrack for Freddy vs Jason.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Red Rain (Peter Gabriel Cover)
2. Arrastra
3. How Can I Live
4. What Comes Around
5. God Save Us

As famous as he is as a rapper, I know less of his songs than other famous rappers of the same time.
I really only remember his stuff from Body Count.

Funny, he used to have a song called 'Cop Killer', now plays a cop on TV.

Incubus

Genre: alt rock

Discovered: CMJ "New Skin", same disc I discovered Orgy from and heard my second Kid Rock song on.

Other: I preferred their original heavier sound on SCIENCE. The only single of theirs I've liked over the last 15 years is "Absolution Calling". I did like "Drive" when it first came out - it was their "Under The Bridge". But FM has killed it so hard that I haven't listened to it willingly in almost 20 years.

HIGH FIVE:

1. New Skin
2. Make A Move
3. Stellar
4. Pardon Me
5. A Certain Shade Of Green

I don’t think I’ve heard New Skin before. I like the funky Faith No Peppers groovy thing. I love it when bass players get the space to go off and carry things.

Wait a minute. I posted Incubus and I got no feedback from you, other than "they played Drive to death".

Sorry about that. I really shoulda added about how I like their early stuff. Looking back, it looks like my only thoughts on the band are FM killing one song. My bad.

I tagged you on a comment I made about their Nu Metal roots. I just thought it was interesting, and you're likely the only one here to possibly be aware of it. But don't sweat it: there's a lot of stuff posted here, which is tough to absorb when you're contributing so much yourself.

Indigo Girls

Genre: folk, roots

Discovered: MTV "Closer To Fine"

Other: Saw the video for "Closer To Fine" in '89 and bought the 3-song single and loved all three. But after hearing a couple more songs from the album, I lost interest. About five years later, my girlfriend (now wife) borrowed their '92 album Rites Of Passage from the library and I ended up loving it, and started appreciating more of their back catalog aside from the 3 songs on my single.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Romeo And Juliet (Dire Straits cover)
2. Closer To Fine
3. Hey Jesus
4. Left Me A Fool
5. Least Complicated

Other: Cyco Miko's other band. Funkier, and funner.

HIGH FIVE:

1. These Freaks Are Here To Party
2. Violent & Funky
3. Three Headed Mind Pollution
4. Therapy (with Ozzy)
5. Fame (David Bowie cover)

Information Society

Genre: new wave, synth pop

Discovered: FM "What's On Your Mind"

Other: Pure energy.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Think
2. Land Of The Blind
3. Walking Away
4. What's On Your Mind
5. How Long

That band is a snapshot from my high school days.
I used to work at a furniture shop after school, and they were probably on the radio once or twice each day during my 4 hour shift.
Those were great days, so it takes me back when I hear them.

If I remember right, they had 3 top 40s

"What's On Your Mind"
"Walking Away"
"Think"

@HecticArt Their song "Think" reminds me of working at a sub shop at the time because it came on the radio daily for a few months. And we'd look at each other and mimic the "Think about it, think about it, think about it" line to each other.

InMe

Genre: rock, hard rock

Discovered: CMJ I think "So You Know"

Other: The album I got into them on (#1 #2 #3 below) is more intense emotionally than their other stuff, which kinda feels like a different band but is still good.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Chamber
2. 7 Weeks
3. So You Know
4. Nova Armada
5. Hymn Ivory Elder

Insane-Clown-Posse.jpg

Insane Clown Posse

Genre: hip hop, horror rap

Discovered: sampler, same one I discovered Matthew Ryan and Jimmie's Chicken Shack from.

Other: DISCLAIMER! I am NOT a juggalo! These guys have a handful of songs I like - mostly from the span of just a few years (1995 to 1999) - but I think most of their stuff is either dopey or just plain awful.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Nothin' But A Bitch Thing (Eminem diss)
2. Mad Professor
3. The Shaggy Show (with Snoop Dogg)
4. The Neden Game
5. Halls Of Illusions
