Sadchild's "high fives" (every artist I like at least five songs from)

Much the same way I listen to the Grateful Dead but don't consider myself anywhere NEAR a Deadhead. Some albums I find enjoyable, and they were great live. One band I wish I was old enough to see at least once before Jerry Garcia died.

If I remember right, they had 3 top 40s

"What's On Your Mind"
"Walking Away"
"Think"

@HecticArt Their song "Think" reminds me of working at a sub shop at the time because it came on the radio daily for a few months. And we'd look at each other and mimic the "Think about it, think about it, think about it" line to each other.
Man, those were good days. Life was so much more simple back then.
My boss and I would get into shoot-outs with the pneumatic staple guns. Those things could draw blood at 15 feet away! It doesn’t specifically have to do with music memories, just the era.

Agreed! I remember my first job (aside from paperboy) as a dishwasher where the older Spansih gentlemen at the loading end of the machine would yell "Eh Marco! Lah-lee lah-lee!" (which meant to turn the machine on). I remember flirting with the girls when I worked at a grocery store cashiering and bagging. I remember working at a convenience store using the plastic wrap machine to make crunched-up balls of plastic like basketballs and tossing them into the trash (competitively, keeping score). Fun times indeed!

J Geils Band

Genre: pop rock, blues rock

Discovered: probably FM. first exposure was likely "Must Of Got Lost" as a real young kid. Then "Love Stinks" was probably first time I associated one of their songs to the band who did it.

Other: In the early 70s (?) my mother worked at a bar that had local bands play. J Geils was one of them that would play there. At 11 years old, I used to play 3 songs from Freeze Frame over and over and over: "Centerfold", "Freeze Frame" and "Piss On The Wall". Loved singing along to "Baw ch-ch-baw ch-baw-baw ch-baw".

HIGH FIVE:

1. Centerfold
2. Love Stinks
3. Come Back
4. Freeze Frame
5. Must Of Got Lost

Jack White

Genre: alt rock, retro rock

Discovered: knew "Seven Nation Army" already

Other: Despite only liking one White Stripes song, Jack as a solo artist has 6 songs I like (the other is a cover of U2 "Love Is Blindness") and I like a dozen Dead Weather songs too.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Sixteen Saltines
2. Lazaretto
3. Freedom At 21
4. I'm Shakin'
5. That Black Bat Licorice

He's someone I don't want to like because it seems like he's trying too hard to be weird.
But he writes good songs with monster hooks.
So I guess I like him.

Jackson Browne

Genre: rock and roll

Discovered: don't remember, probably FM "Running On Empty"

Other: At 13, I remember thinking "Lawyers In Love" has some pretty weird lyrics. Almost 40 years later, I still have the same thought every time I hear it.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Tender Is The Night
2. Lawyers In Love
3. Running On Empty
4. Somebody's Baby
5. Boulevard

James Taylor

Genre: singer-songwriter, folk, AC

Discovered: don't remember

Other: There are a few voices in music that I find very soothing, and feel familiar from my childhood - almost like an uncle. He's one of them. Peter Gabriel is another.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Fire And Rain
2. Copperline
3. Sweet Baby James
4. Up On The Roof
5. Carolina In My Mind

Two of the best there. James Taylor and Jackson Browne.

I was going to see them both (touring together) in concert, then the pandemic hit, now it's rescheduled for October. Planning on going.
