They had a couple of songs I kinda liked, but I could never get past him throwing the guitars in the Talk Dirty video. I had to save like crazy to get my first good guitar, and it annoyed the hell out of me that he could disrespect them that much. His carefree bad boy image came off more as a clown in makeup to a young Hectic.

The album cover of their debut was part of why I didn't get into them right away. I remember someone later looking at it and saying something sarcastic like, "those chicks are pretty hot"

Police

Genre: (early) post-punk, reggae rock (late) rock, alt rock, AC

Discovered: don't remember

Other: Despite all five below being from their last two albums, I like their earlier albums too. Sometimes I'm in a mainstream Police mood, sometimes I'm in a "Canary In A Coalmine"/"No Time This Time" mood.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Synchronicity II
2. Wrapped Around Your Finger
3. Tea In The Sahara
4. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
5. King Of Pain

Good stuff outta those guys. It's too bad they couldn't keep the bickering at bay enough to make more albums. I like all of their stuff too.

Every Rose has it's Thorn is really the only Poison song I could get into. Motley Crue had the same schtick but had the music to back it up, same with KISS. Poison were on the soft rock side of Metal for me.

Pop Will Eat Itself

Genre: (early) indie rock, grebo (mid/late) electronic rock, industrial rock, rap rock

Discovered: a record store clerk

Other: They had a massive string of hits (mostly moderate hits) in the UK in the late 80s into the mid 90s. Nothing here in the US. But their best known songs are "Def Con One", "Can U Dig It", "X Y & Zee", "Get The Girl Kill The Baddies" and "RSVP". None of those are on my list below, but I like those all too. I probably own 30 CDs (including singles) and a dozen piece of vinyl from these guys. Big fan.

HIGH FIVE:

1. 92°F (The 3rd Degree)
2. Nightmare at 20,000 Feet
3. EatMeDrinkMeLoveMeKillMe
4. Not Now James, We're Busy
5. Good From Far, Far From Good

My #1 song features a guest singer all the way through, so it doesn't have their usual sound

I've got to give those guys more attention.
They are someone I know OF but don't really know much of their stuff.
The bits and pieces I've heard, I've liked.

Their 80/90s stuff was cutting edge at the time, but sounds dated now. If you didn't like it back then, you may not get into it now? Kinda like Carter USM or Jesus Jones.

Their latest album has the same sound but modernized:

Porcupine Tree

Genre: prog rock

Discovered: friend

Other: Don't know much about them. I like half of their 2005 album Deadwing and a few of their other songs.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Shallow
2. Lazarus
3. Halo
4. Fear Of A Blank Planet
5. Open Car

I pretty much only know them through a connection to Rush. Alex played on a song or two.
It's another band I should listen to more of.

They broke up in 2010. The main guy began focusing on his solo work. I've heard a couple songs and didn't get into them. I also didn't get into Porcupine Tree's last album.

Posies

Genre: prog rock

Discovered: don't remember, but it was "Dream All Day"

Other: #1 below was the song I listened to each morning when I had to be at work at 630, especially since at the time I worked until 10 at night sometimes too (the title really fit). #3 is a song from 2016, the rest are from the 90s. #4 is from the famous DGC Rarities compilation, which also had great at-the-time-previously unreleased songs by Nirvana, Beck, Counting Crows and others.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Dream All Day
2. Flavor Of The Month
3. Squirrel vs Snake
4. Open Every Window
5. Definite Door

My random 630am thought that sent me running to my computer...... I forgot to change the genre on Posies. They're more power pop/indie rock. Not prog.

Positive K

Genre: hip hop

Discovered: don't remember, but it was "I Got A Man"

Other: He only dropped one album, but he had a few singles before it and has had some since. The album is his best work though. I later learned that he does both the male and female lines in his big (and only) hit "I Got A Man". And the record label wanted lightning to strike twice, so they had him do a back-and-forth guy/girl remake of one of his other songs to mimic "I Got A Man" - but it flopped.

HIGH FIVE:

1. I Got A Man
2. Nightshift (Remix)
3. Friends
4. Pass The Mic
5. A Flower Grows In Brooklyn
