I play a lot of 2k music around my wife, son, office mate, band members and they end up liking some of them a lot. They'll hear a song 4 or 5 times and then say how much they like it. Granted, it's 1 in every 50 songs, but I know what would appeal to others vs what just I like. Not listening to the radio much at all and then only 70s/80s/90s stations.
I'd love to set up a 2k radio station that only played music that people like us would like. Problem is nobody would tune into it because they'd assume it's bad because it's 2000s music.
If I were tasked with programming a radio station, I would do a pop-rock/power-pop station playing everything from mid-70s to today. Songs that make you want to tap your feet, bob your head, shake your hips or even get up and dance.
Examples:
70s
Cheap Trick - I Want You To Want Me
Dave Edmunds - I Knew The Bride
Knack - My Sharona
80s
Billy Idol - Dancing With Myself
Hall & Oates - You Make My Dreams
Romantics - What I Like About You
90s
Counting Crows - Mr Jones
Cure - Friday I'm In Love
Gin Blossoms - Hey Jealousy
00s
Finger Eleven - Paralyzer
Mute Math - Typical
Yellowcard - Ocean Avenue
10s
fun - We Are Young
Sheppard - Geronimo
Walk The Moon - Shut Up And Dance
20s
1975 - If You're Too Shy
Mammoth WVH - Distance
Trews - God Speed Rebel
Good rock and roll that makes you wanna dance is still being made. It's just not in the spotlight and there should be a place where people find it all without being subjected to all the "popular" garbage.
