Jason Mraz - I’m Yours

I surprised I'm the only one that likes this song. At the time it set a new record for most weeks on the Hot 100.



Then Train got the same producer and ripped this one off for that terrible song "Hey Soul Sister".

I've got three words for Train and their annoying song: Jason, Mraz, and rip-off.

After a three-year hiatus, Train regrouped to record their fifth studio album. At the suggestion of their new manager, the band teamed up with Martin Terefe – the man who produced Jason Mraz's ukulele-centered record-breaking smash-hit "I'm Yours".

The lead single to the Train's latest album, made with Terefe, is… wait for it… a ukulele-centered pop song! Coincidence?

"Hey Soul Sister" is a slightly-more upbeat, somewhat-rockier photocopy of Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours", replacing Mraz's pleasant voice with Monahan's awful yowling, and Mraz's clever poetry with nonsense and stupidity.

Okay, you got me there. I'll add that to my list. I do like a few of his songs, but it's been so long since I heard his music, I don't know the names any more. Most of the stuff he's done is either annoying to me, or I'm unfamiliar with it.

For me, he had some great stuff up to that point:

"Wordplay"
"Geek In The Pink"
"I'm Yours"

But since that song, nothing good.

I considered I’m Yours one of my good songs from that list. And while I like it, I usually avoid it or else it will get stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

SiriusXM's Xtra channel Instrumental Covers plays instrumental versions of pop and rock hits. The channel just played Hey Ya! by Booker T. Jones, Neil Young and the Drive-By Truckers. The song was originally a number-one hit for OutKast in 2003-04. This version is from Booker T.'s peculiarly-named 2009 CD Potato Hole, which won a Grammy award for best pop instrumental album. Jones is best-known as the keyboardist of Booker T. & the MG's, whose 1960s hits include Green Onions, Soul Limbo, Hang 'Em High, Time Is Tight and Hip-Hug-Her.

I've said this elsewhere a while ago, but for a short time an FM station near Concord NH exclusively played Vitamin String Quartet - instrumental (elevator-style) versions of pop songs old and new. It was always fun seeing how quickly you could 'name that tune'.

Haha, holy shit! That probably explains it.

Several years ago, we were having a nice lunch at Latitudes, which is the oceanfront restaurant at the Wentworth by the Sea in Newcastle NH. And I swear I heard an instrumental version of "She Don't Use Jelly" by the Flaming Lips. But afterwards, I searched and searched, yet I couldn't find a recording of it. I started questioning myself.

It was a blast tuning to the station. 24/7 name that tune. My wife loved it too. So did a friend who lives in the area. Then it changed to whatever else and we haven't listened since.

Here they are doing a very complicated System Of A Down song.

Can't Fight The Moonlight is a song from the 2000 movie Coyote Ugly starring Piper Perabo, Adam Garcia and John Goodman. In the movie, LeAnn (uncredited) provided Piper's singing voice. Keep that in mind as you watch LeAnn and Piper in the video. LeAnn is actually singing a duet with herself!
