Check out my new laptop! It's an Acer one. This thing is super tiny. It has an 8.5 inch screen and is shockingly fast for how small it is. I just got it yesterday.

Anyone else have one like this or another micro laptop?
 
OK, so I am using this just for writing. I have Final Draft, Open Office, and iTunes on there. The computer came with a 120GB hard drive (solid state) and runs on XP. It's awesome! This thing loads up fast!

I am thinking about getting this for an Xmas present. How much did you pay and where did you get it?

I think I saw this version for $350 at newegg.

Looks pretty sweet!
 
This was a gift for me from a company that bought some stuff I wrote for them. It was a small token of their appreciation. However, when I did open the box I immediately googled it and found the exact same model at micro center for 349.99. I love it. Very simple, small and practical.

Just XP home, but it's more than I need for what I use it for. I have two other laptops I do photoshop and video editing stuff on. This little thing is for traveling and such aside from day to day writing. The only downside is that there is no dvd/cd drive. I will pick up an external one someday.
 
Yeah, it was a concern of mine. It is smaller and it takes some getting used to by so far I have been able to manage............AND I have some sausage fingers bro!
 
This is the smallest computer I've owned. It is an HP Compaq nc4010 business machine. 12" display, 1.7GHz processor with 2gb memory, 60gb hard drive and Windows XP Professional. The sound and video are built into the motherboard. This thing has been a workhorse.

I eventually upgraded to a HP Compaq NC6400 business machine last year. It really is a mid sized machine with a 14.1 wide screen display 2.0GHz Dual Core Pentium Process with 2GB Memory and HD Sound and ATI Mobile Video and 80gb hard drive, which I just upgraded to a 200GB 7200 RPM Hatachi Drive.

That is a small machine you got. I like these business machines because they are tough rough and ready with a 3 year HP on site next day warranty repair at no extra cost.

That's a nice machine you've got there. I have two other laptops, both Toshibas, and I love them. They are my workhorses. This little thing was free and I will only be using it for writing and travel purposes. I am a bit afraid though because it doesn't seem too beefy or tough, but the plus side is that it has a solid state hard drive. I don't know much about them other than they can take a bit of abuse.

I just can't decide what brand. I want a 120g HD and XP.

I'm considering buying one and from my reading, the Acer Aspire One seems to be the way to go. Costco has the 6-cell battery version w/ 160 gig HD on sale for like $379. You can get 5-7 hours of runtime on that baby! I wanted it for travel, but with a kid on the way I am going to be cutting down on my work travel pretty soon.

I ended up getting the Eee Pc 1000 from Best Buy. My wife got it early. :)

Her work will add VPN etc... to it.

She likes it so far. She called it "cute."

I put off the search for a mini-notebook. The old HP that my wife uses just refuses to finally die. It shuts off every now and then, but it's perfectly usable for her web surfing and email. Although I did play with the Aspire One at Costco yesterday and it was pretty dang sweet.

You'll need a third party utility to manage the partitions. Why the heck has MS never given us even basic partition management with any version of Windows?!?

I used to use Partition Magic before it got discontinued, but now I use Paragon Partition Manager (Paragon Partition Manager - hard disk partitioning software.). It works with Vista as well.
