I love SIRIUS XM!

Hmm, there is a tree facing south in the front yard. It's not the cable service. 5G? Some other phone tower? Doesn't seem likely when around the corner it is strong.

Despite being out in the sticks, there's LTE cell towers around here like nobody's business.

This week I pretty much stuck with Podcasts and Apple Music. Usually like to listen to Lithium in the morning, but, Madison!

As I mentioned elsewhere, I just activated the satrad in my new car. Previously I was using the aux input with the phone app. But this car has a display screen, and if I want it to display anything useful, I need to put it in sat mode.

Update. Being that my "new" car is a 2008 model, it's lacking in tech savvy. When I play SXM through my free-trial, I get a 1-line plain text name of song, and a 1-line plain text name of artist, against a gray background. In a corner of the screen is a little selection box that has the channel name.

I've discovered the excellent Android Auto app for my Samsung phone. It works well horizontally, allowing me to park my phone in the ashtray/cubby just below the CD player in the center console. When I enter the car, it detects both my car Bluetooth (phone calls) and my Bluetooth audio receiver (music) plugged into the aux input. It auto-launches the app, starts up streaming SXM, and starts playing the last channel I listened to. With 1 touch, I can full-screen it, and it gives me the full info display with album art and everything. I can go up or down channels, or select favorites with 1 touch. I can also easily launch google navigation, and all phone calling capability is linked through my car. It exits the app when I shut-off the car.

What really blew me away was when Mrs Scotch sent me a text, the Android Auto app put a big banner across the phone with the sender's name, and gave me the option of reading the text to me. Then Google assistant asked me if I wanted to reply, I said yes, then I gave the reply, it asked me if I wanted to send it, I said yes. My car doesn't do any of that.

So, in short, if I end up sticking with the Android Auto app, I will let my free trial end, and I won't need to do a satellite radio sub.

My car reads texts too me too. Hilarious pronunciation at times. Never tried to have it respond. I think it will just never configured it. I don't have Apple Car Play.

The satrad display on mine is more informative. And it doesn't use data. Even has pictures of the artist.

I've never really taken the time to get into the voice commands and all of those cool things that my phone can do.
No clue why the hell I haven't done that, It seems like it's something that I'd like.

The wife's 2020 Outback (as well as the 2014 Tacoma before that) has the full color screen which displays all the info and album art. But my 2008 car is fairly primitive.

I've never owned a car (for myself) with bluetooth, or a touch-screen, or any type of multi-line display, or an automatic transmission. So traditionally, I don't do gadgetry. And even with my new 2008 car, I can use voice commands to do things, but I don't think I'm going to use that very much. But the Android Auto app just came out and spoke to me, and all I had to do was say yes or no. It's perfect for a passive guy like me.

I think a lot of those extras like bluetooth came about in the 201* models. In my case, I chose the most gadgety version of the Corolla. I couldn't stand being without the gadgets if I knew they were available.

I was doing the phone into the bluetooth stereo unit in the car. I'm getting used to the in car setup. I got 10 weeks of free sub. What am I going to do?

Bmw had bluetooth in 2002, and in 2005 it was compatible with any cell phone. But it was always part of the Premium package, which included a bunch of other stuff and cost over 3 grand, so I never got it.

I think I've been using the listen on the app button for the last couple of years.
I keep expecting it will get blocked on my work computer. We're not supposed to stream music, and I think that it's a matter of time before they catch up to me.

Last week they re-posted the 1986 VJ (in "episodes") but named it 1982.

This week they haven't posted 1984. Get it together SXM!

PS - I'm posting here and not in the 80s thread because I'm staying away from any spoilers in that thread until I've listened to '84

You missed me grumbling about the same thing in the 80s thread.

Hey y'all I don't know where to put this but has any one noticed the lack of forward button when you try to move ahead when you are trying to catch up after a pause? It acts like a 15 second forward verses moving to the next spot after an AD.

I think I have noticed. More when I was listening to the Big10 tournament than music. With the music I just seem to just go with it.

Ok the news stations are having issues. I have to push the 15 seconds every time versus hitting the other button to move from segment to segment.

Back to the pause, I was listening to the Dick Golden Show early this morning, then put it on pause to go to the Farmers Market. When I got back, I resumed and heard the rest and entire program.
