Hurricane Season

First, I hope no lives and not much property is lost due to the storm.

Second, I read this and roll my eyes.
"unprecedented rate of strengthening from tropical storm to powerful hurricane."

Like more than last year's big storm? More than the year before?? Recency bias choice of words there...

I think that is pretty common over that particular part of the Caribbean Sea.

As I mentioned, my Mother-in-law is staying with us. That means the TV blasting all day with news, so today it's the hurricane. I'm hearing a lot of "hunkering-down".

Naples mayor Teresa Heitmann just told CNN that the residents of her city have been instructed to "stay hunkered down." Wow. Is she smart or what?

I'd say that hunkering down is more than merely taking a position; it involves staying in place (which oddly is one of the antonyms). So I'll offer my suggestion that the opposite would be "flitting about".

Hurricane Season + Florida + Dumb Dodo. This story coul;d fit on each of those threads but I will post it here.

There's no Joy in Mudville.

Speaking of nuts from Florida, I haven't heard anything from Koop since this hit. I don't think he was coastal but he would have been affected.
