Hurricane Season

While it's not a hurricane, we've been getting hammered by a nor'easter with gale force winds (over 50 mph), and in southern New England, they're getting winds above 70 mph, which may be hurricane force. Also, it's been a steady 45 degrees. People keep talking about a "bomb cyclone", and fortunately, several of the local weather people I watch, have voiced their disdain for that term.

They canceled our community band rehearsal last night, and there's no school today. Also, our driveway pavers have now pushed out twice; from Monday to today, and now to tomorrow. Our puppy Talia doesn't know what to make of the strong winds and blowing leaves; she just goes outside and sits. I don't think she understands what's coming at her, or what to do with the leaves.

Is that part of the same frontal boundary that's passing through here with a cold front? We're supposed to have high winds also tomorrow, gusting up to 40.

Bomb cyclone is definitely an annoying term.

The system that's up here did a little swirl, where the eye moved in a circle, but in general, it's going northward. We had a bunch of stuff cancelled because of power outages, but like I said, it's much worse on the Massachusetts south shore and Cape Cod. They probably have large outages.

Here you go

We just finished 24 hours straight of heavy downpours, right after the midweek storm. All the culverts are in full operation. There are ponds and water running everywhere. But now it's a beautiful day.

We had the same rain overnight Friday into Saturday morning. Drizzled rest of Saturday. Now sunny. We never got the midweek storm however.

We got 7.4 inches of rain in October. That’s 3 times what we usually get and the third highest amount since the record back in the 1880’s.

That would be just about 8 feet if it was snow.

4 weeks after the storm, electricity was restored today!
86 days after the storm, cable tv and home internet was restored today!
That was a long freakin' wait. At least they didn't charge us for the two plus months.

Still no money from insurance company yet. They're leaving so many of us waiting. Roof still secured, but no work on putting shingles or anything, and no work on fence and other damage repair, while waiting for insurance money.

New street poles still without lights. Hello darkness my old friend...

The local McDonald's finally reopened, but Sonic didn't yet. Overall, we have maybe half of the restaurant options we had before.

A few neighborhoods got hit pretty hard a couple nights ago. Sounds like some localized areas of destruction.

We got our insurance check around Christmas week. A few weeks later, we got a new shingle roof.

I still need to get an estimate on vinyl fence repair and I need a carpenter to replace some wood on the porch.

Better hurry up and get it fixed before the next hurricane hits!
