How does your SUV do in a hurricane?

Not sure, I got the RAV last October and it hasn't seen a hurricane yet. Today I bought some water and ice for my cooler if the power goes out. Also a loaf of bread. I got gas at Wawa after passing 5 stations that were out of everything or only had diesel. Surprisingly because the line was long, the wait was rather short. I was only there for like 20 minutes. I then got home and parked in a spot in the middle of the lot, as far away from any trees as I could get. I was supposed to go to Melbourne today to drop off that big, old wall clock I talked about but with the gas situation we decided to call if off. The clock will have to literally weather the storm in the back of the RAV. I hope it will be ok. As much as that thing is a hassle, I like having it and it would be a shame if it survived all the way from the 1800's only to be destroyed 7 days after I took possession.

I also called my boss to let her know that I fully intend to be at work on Tues unless the storm is right on top of us. I think it looks good to her that I called, being proactive and all that. I also thanked her again for allowing me to take the 6 days.

I'm going to make sure all my devices are fully charged over the next day or two. On a fun side note, my Dad used a humidifier by his bed. We would use distilled water in it. I was saving all the empty gallon jugs for this situation. However, they all found their way into a trash bag about 5 days ago when we were cleaning out the place.

I think I'm as prepared for this storm as I can be.

The barometric pressure has really dropped. My trusty hurricane watch that I posted about above is saying it's currently 29.75. I've never seen it that low in this area. Kinda neat.

Are you still in a spot that isn't going to get the worst of it?

Seems like it, at least for now. We are getting on and off rain and a little wind but nothing crazy at all. It's the very outer bands that pass over ever couple of hours.

It's neat to see the radar now that the storm is so close. I hope it doesn't change path at all. I'd be really happy if we came through this thing without losing power.

CNN just posted this update:

Hurricane Dorian has killed five people on the Abaco Islands of the Bahamas, Prime Minister Hubert Minnis told reporters Monday afternoon.

Stay safe, Koop!

I did some research using this new-fangled invention known as the World Wide Web and discovered 17 hurricanes made landfall in Florida, 1900-1965. Seven were Category 3, nine were Category 4 and one was Category 5. In 1964, The Walt Disney Company began secretly buying property in Florida – more than 27,000 acres – for a new theme park. Since Walt Disney World opened in 1971, 12 more hurricanes have hit Florida.

Couldn't Disney have found a safer location?

Supposedly, Walt Disney really wanted to open a theme park north of Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana instead of opening in Florida. But stupid greedy LA politicians botched that plan.

Of course they wouldn't have been free from hurricanes here either.

Walt started shell companies to buy the land in Orlando. He knew he'd be dealing with jacked up prices and political headaches if he used his name.
