DRC Madness #41: Best #1 Song of the 70s

On the December 5 1998 Billboard Hot 100, the first chart to include airplay-only songs, these album tracks debuted:

60: A Little More Time On You – *NSYNC
64: You Get What You Give – New Radicals
66: Sweetest Thing – U2
68 Changes – 2Pac
70: Take Me There – BLACKstreet/Mya/Mase/Blinky Blink
74: Angel Of Mine – Monica
75: Rosa Parks – OutKast
86: For A Little While – Tim McGraw

The *NSYNC, Monica and Tim McGraw songs were eventually released as singles.

Among the number-one albums of 1973-76:

No Secrets – Carly Simon (5 weeks)
Houses Of The Holy – Led Zeppelin (2 weeks)
Living In The Material World – George Harrison (5 weeks)
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road – Elton John (8 weeks)
Band On The Run – Paul McCartney & Wings (4 weeks)
Caribou – Elton John (4 weeks)
Greatest Hits – Elton John (10 weeks)
Physical Graffiti – Led Zeppelin (6 weeks)
Captain Fantastic & The Brown Dirt Cowboy – Elton John (7 weeks)
Wings At The Speed Of Sound – Paul McCartney & Wings (7 weeks)
Songs In The Key Of Life – Stevie Wonder (14 weeks)

I propose our next DRC Madness be "Best albums of the 1970s."
I remember "Dark Side Of The Moon" was on the Album Charts forever. I just don't remember when

The Dark Side Of The Moon debuted at #95 on the March 17 1973 Billboard album chart, then known as Top LP's & Tapes. It was number one for only one week, on the April 18 1973 chart, but it remained on the top 200 for 741 consecutive weeks! Because of sales and streaming, The Dark Side Of The Moon frequently re-enters the chart. As of March 2026, it has spent 996 weeks on the album chart!

I propose our next DRC Madness be "Best albums of the 1970s."
We all ready know who will win the "Best albums of the 1970s." The Beatles

I just submitted my votes. Let me know if you got them all.
I received all of your votes as everybody is officially locked in. Thank you everyone for voting.

I'm shocked on how many points you gave America: A Horse With No Name. ;)

"Best albums of the 1970s." The Beatles

Nine Beatles albums charted in the 1970s. Peak positions are in parentheses.

1970: Hey Jude (3)
1970: The Beatles Featuring Tony Sheridan (68)
1970: Let It Be (1)
1973: The Beatles 1962-1966 (3)
1973: The Beatles 1967-1970 (1)
1976: Rock 'N' Roll Music (2)
1977: The Beatles At The Hollywood Bowl (2)
1977: The Beatles Live! At The Star Club, Hamburg, 1962 (111)
1977: Love Songs (24)

To go along with the "Best Number-One Song Of The 1970s" Madness, the next Madness should be "Best Number-One Album Of The 1970s." There were 126 number-one albums in the decade – including Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, which was number one for 31 weeks.

America's self-titled debut album was number one for five weeks in March-April 1972. It included.........no, never mind. I don't want to upset IRBS.

I have officially closed all the voting forms. Thank you everyone for getting your votes in early. As I'm setting up the Qualifying 1st round for each year. Only two years have more than 16 entries. The rest have 16 songs each.

1974 - 18
1975 - 17
