The Dark Side Of The Moon debuted at #95 on the March 17 1973 Billboard album chart, then known as Top LP's & Tapes. It was number one for only one week, on the April 18 1973 chart, but it remained on the top 200 for 741 consecutive weeks! Because of sales and streaming, The Dark Side Of The Moon frequently re-enters the chart. As of March 2026, it has spent 996 weeks on the album chart!

To go along with the "Best Number-One Song Of The 1970s" Madness, the next Madness should be "Best Number-One Album Of The 1970s." There were 126 number-one albums in the decade – including Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, which was number one for 31 weeks.

America's self-titled debut album was number one for five weeks in March-April 1972. It included.........no, never mind. I don't want to upset IRBS.

I have officially closed all the voting forms. Thank you everyone for getting your votes in early. As I'm setting up the Qualifying 1st round for each year. Only two years have more than 16 entries. The rest have 16 songs each.

1974 - 18
1975 - 17
