DRC Madness #23 - DRC All-Time Songs

I understand Bruce has already written two new songs to show his appreciation:

"Oh honey, my song was not top-ten
But it's the favorite of many men.
DRC Madness just came to an end.
Baby, it was born to win."

"My song won on the DRC.
It won on the DRC.
I'm as happy as I can be.
My song won on the DRC."

Are all those bad songs on the list?
Yep. We can keep it just positive, that's cool.

But I was thinking -- just because I like to hear "Closer To Fine" by Indigo Girls while I drive my middle age lesbian ass around in my Subaru, and then there's that rare Depeche Mode b-side, and also that song from that band from my hometown that never got signed -- doesn't mean everyone else does. Allowing a veto list might keep a few "one or two people like it but three or four people hate it" songs out of the top 50.

Interesting. I will allow anybody a 10 worst list ranked 1-10 (1=worst, max 10 but any number). I will do a second list (for fun) using the first calculations but considering these negatives in it as well. Should a #1 negative have the same negative weight as a #1 positive? I am thinking making it maybe (11-neg.rank)*2. The first list will be positive only.

I have a problem doing a "worst" list. There are songs on the list I dislike, but also songs I just don't know, or songs from a genre I'm just not into. So what exactly would I be listing? Every week, on the 70's countdown, Sadchild has a number of songs that are "don't know if I know". It's like that.

On the other hand, these are all songs I really like, but they didn't make my cutoff:

Sitting on the Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding
A Whiter Shade of Pale - Procol Harum
So Far Away - Carole King
What's Going On - Marvin Gaye
Peter Gabriel "Solsbury Hill"

"Just What I Needed" The Cars
"I'm The Only One" Melissa Etheridge
"Let's Go Crazy" Prince and The Revolution
"Middle of The Road" The Pretenders

If I had more time, I would put more work into my list. I'm going to make my list a bit simple and I do have my 50 now. I'm trying to rank them. There are a several that are my all-time favorite.

If we do a second ranking that includes negative points, here are my bottom 10 ranked in order (#1 my worst)

1. "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" Green Day
2. "Bye Bye Bye" Nsync
3. "Larger Than Life" Backstreet Boys
4. "High Hopes" Panic! At The Disco
5. "The Phoenix" Fall Out Boy
6. "Sultans of Swing" Dire Straits

8. "So Much To Say" Dave Matthews Band

While I'd still like a ruling on how to categorize "worst", let me ask;

- You prefer "Tragedy" by The Bee Gees over "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day or "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits?
- You prefer "Old Time Rock 'N Roll" by Bob Seger to "Tempted" by Squeeze or "When Doves Cry" by Prince?
- You prefer "Copacabana" by Barry Manilow to "So Much To Say" by Dave Matthews Band?
- You prefer "Islands In The Stream" by Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers or "Too Much Heaven" by The Bee Gees to any of those 10 songs?

Here are what I consider to be the worst songs on that list. And this reminds me of a bad joke: Of all the foods I ever ate, I like the liver worst.

1. Shadrach - Beastie Boys
2. Old Time Rock & Roll - Bob Seger
3.. Crazy Mary - Pearl Jam
4. Evenflow - Pearl Jam
5. Prison Sex - Tool
6. Cherub Rock - Smashing Pumpkins
7. Burning Down The House - Talking Heads
8. Psychosocial - Slipknot
9. Roll Me Away - Bob Seger
10. Sweating Bullets - Megadeth
