Born To Run was Springsteen's third single and first chart hit, peaking at #23 on the Hot 100 in late October 1975. His first single was Blinded By The Light, released February 23, 1973. The song would become a number-one hit for Manfred Mann in February 1977. Here is Springsteen's second single, Sprit In The Night, released May 11, 1973 and featuring Clarence Clemons on tenor sax:

When do you need the list by?

I will nominate thirty singles, each of which was a top-ten hit, and one album track. I tried to be objective – but I did include a few of my favorite songs.

Africa - Toto
When I was going through my top 50 I came across "Africa". I was shocked to find that it was not on the 256 list. I remember not including it in my list since I had seen it listed before. Accidentally coming to the first page I see that it was listed and I guess missed. I doubt it would have been top 32 but should have been on the list.

Yes, Africa should have been among the 256 songs – and how did Hey Jude, Satisfaction and Light My Fire not

Mother effer! I had the top 50 list ready to go, but it looks like I didn't use all the songs in the original list, but maybe only 128 or 156 or something. Guess I've got some work to do.

As long as you aren't using songs outside the list it doesn't matter if you used 128 or 256 songs.

Well I don't want to make a list based on only half of the contenders. But having gone through it again, I think I had it right the 1st time, and it just seemed like more songs when I saw them as a single list.

Yeah, when I put the Rolling Stones song at #34, I realized I should have had it much higher. I then put it at #15, dropped the other songs down a notch and didn't remove it from #34. If it isn't too much trouble, can you move each song from #35 to #50 up one position and add Jailhouse Rock at #50?
