The Final Four. We could also call this the Vinyl Four – or would that be dumb?
Yes.
It would be dumb.
But it's also perfect for us.

On to the voting:
Bracket #1
"Born To Run" Bruce Springsteen
"Another Brick In The Wall" Pink Floyd

"Superstition" Steve Wonder
"Bohemian Rhapsody" Queen
(This was a brutal choice. 9 times out of 10, I would pick Superstition over Bohemian if they were both on the radio at the same time, but Bohemian is groundbreaking.)

Bracket #2
"More Than A Feeling" Boston
"Don't You (Forget About Me)" Simple Minds

"When Doves Cry" Prince

"Imagine" John Lennon

Bracket #3
"Let It Be" The Beatles
"Werewolves of London" Warren Zevon

"Money For Nothing" Dire Straits
"Walk of Life" Dire Straits

Bracket #4
"Love Shack" B-52's
"Losing My Religion" R.E.M.

"Landslide" Fleetwood Mac
"Stairway To Heaven" Led Zeppelin

None of us submitted the best songs, we submitted songs we each like. I didn't even submit my favorites, I was just adding songs to round off the list. My favorites are mostly songs that others wouldn't vote for.

If I was asked to submit the all-time greatest songs, I'd throw-in like 20 Beatles songs, instead of anything from Green Day or the B-52s.

I don't know why you'd think that each of our personal quirky tastes should parallel the choice of the masses. I don't even like pop music for the most part. And you know why they call it pop. So how would any list of songs I'd come up with be anything other than my favorites only?
My favourite songs ARE the best songs ever made. That is why they are my favourite. You no doubt have a different list of greatest songs. But I don't buy this esotaric argument about quality of songs. If they are not your favourite, they are not as good. Period. And if you did not submit them for madness, who's fault is that?

And I don't consider the masses to have good taste. Look at the Hot 100 to find out why. And with the results of the madness so far, I am no longer certain of DRC members tastes either. :)

I don't buy this. I'm self-aware enough to know what I don't know. That there was great music before my time, and great music past my prime. And I'm an avid student of music. But I'm less in-tune with movies, and much less so with literature.

Why would I presume that I know all that's good, and if I don't know it, it can't be good? I understand your point, that it's only your favorites that matter to you. But I love Roundabout by Yes, and you dislike it. So are you wrong? Clearly, I think it's one of the best songs.

I also love old Chicago, and PJ Harvey, and Elastica, and Cream. But I'm not naive; in a madness game, that stuff wouldn't do well. So I stick with Hotel California, and Bohemian Rhapsody, and other songs that most people like.

That's how the game works. If you want to know all my favorites, I've posted like 60 pages of them. But for the game, I stick with stuff that's likely to be popular.

I agree with Scotch.
I'd rather watch Spaceballs over Citizen Kane. But I would never say that Spaceballs is the better movie.

Granted Spaceballs is a cool movie, but I loved it when I was 10 so it holds some personal emotional value that Citizen Kane does not.

But I watch Citizen Kane and I marvel at its creativity, technical ambitions, and how it told a story in a way that other movies at the time weren't doing.

Also... I lied earlier when I said I just vote for favorites. I guess I'm really voting for these songs as a hybrid of best and favorite.

Agreed

"Losing My Religion" R.E.M.

"Landslide" Fleetwood Mac
"Stairway To Heaven" Led Zeppelin

As much as I like Floyd, I think Born to Run is the better of the two.

Love Shack and Losing my Religion are both great songs, but Love Shack is one of those you hear at Weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, Prom Dances, so it's slightly overplayed.

"Landslide" Fleetwood Mac
"Stairway To Heaven" Led Zeppelin

DENIED!

Mister Jon, you probably won't think Love Shack is a "great song" after you hear this godawful version by the Chipmunks:

I know Another Brick... is someone's favorite song, but while I appreciate the thematic aspect, I don't think it's a pleasant song, or a rocker, or a dancer.

And again, Losing My Religion is special to some people here, but to me, it's soulless background music.

And I was very close myself to picking Landslide over Stairway. It's a powerful song.

We have finally arrived to the Championship for all the brackets, let the next round of madness begin.

Bracket #1

"Born To Run" Bruce Springsteen
"Bohemian Rhapsody" Queen

Bracket #2

"More Than A Feeling" Boston
"Imagine" John Lennon

Bracket #3

"Let It Be" The Beatles
"Money For Nothing" Dire Straits

Bracket #4

"Losing My Religion" R.E.M.
"Landslide" Fleetwood Mac

3 of the 4 brackets I will be voting against a song on my favourites list. One of the brackets is 2 songs which I like but are not on my favourites list.

Striking out the one I am not voting for.

Bracket #1

"Born To Run" Bruce Springsteen
"Bohemian Rhapsody" Queen
This kills me. "Bohemian Rhapsody" was once my favourite song.

Bracket #2

"More Than A Feeling" Boston
"Imagine" John Lennon

Bracket #3

"Let It Be" The Beatles
"Money For Nothing" Dire Straits
This also kills me. Dire Straits is one of my favourite groups. But the editing of the lyrics prevents it from being ***** and therefore "Let It Be" wins.

Bracket #4

"Losing My Religion" R.E.M.
"Landslide" Fleetwood Mac
Another favourite bites the dust.
