DRC Madness #23 - DRC All-Time Songs

You know the voting's getting hard when every round except one is "3 votes to 5" or "4 votes to 4"!!

Don't remember what "Love Shack" went up against, but methinks it's gotten pretty damn lucky to make it this far. Good song, yes. One of the best 16 ever recorded? Ummmm......

I imagine a conversation going like this:

DRC member: We're doing an elimination madness to determine the 16 best songs ever recorded.
Non-member: Really? What have you narrowed it down to?
DRC member: "More Than A Feeling", "Stairway To Heaven", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Let It Be"...
Non-member: "Wow! Nice choices!"
DRC member: "Born To Run", "Imagine", "Landslide", "Another Brick In The Wall"...
Non member: "Yeah! Right on!"
DRC member: "Werewolves Of London", "Superstition", "Losing My Religion", "Money For Nothing"...
Non member: "Uh huh, sure, sure, good stuff."
DRC member: "Don't You Forget About Me", "Walk Of Life", "When Doves Cry", "Love Shack"
Non member: "Ha ha very funny, what are the other four? Gotta be The Who, Billy Joel, Jimi Hendrix and Rolling Stones, right?"

Just remember -- in DRC Ice Cream Madness -- our favourite flavour was Vanilla. It beat out The Beatles in a very close vote.

On February 7, 1964, Baskin-Robbins introduced Beatle-Nut, a pistachio ice cream with walnuts and chocolate swirls. In that same year, there was also a Beatle Krunch ice cream bar.

That was never really in the Madness since it is not ice cream.

We go through this argument every year and yes it was.

You go to the store, restaurants and ask or look for ice cream. You see rainbow sherbet so it is labeled as ice cream.

I agree that Love Shack has gotten mighty lucky, but I also know that this madness didn't start with the best songs ever recorded. But we just do the best with what we have.

Who the fuck other than us is it to judge the best song ever recorded? We saw the crap that we got when we went with Billboard's interpretation. We have 8 people able to contribute their list of their favourite songs which I maintain is the same as their list of the best songs ever recorded. And yes, the tournament matchups do provide some luck and quirky results. I think when we take everybody's best 50 songs from this collection we will likely have a different ranking. But both are valid.

And if you think there is a best song ever recorded that is not on this list and you did not submit it, then it is on you. (the you is generic you not specifically scotch).

Well, "best songs ever recorded" was just me having that funny conversation above. Technically, it's "the highest-voted songs submitted as favorites by some members of DRC". But that's too much of a mouthful. Funnier to word it like I did =)

None of us submitted the best songs, we submitted songs we each like. I didn't even submit my favorites, I was just adding songs to round off the list. My favorites are mostly songs that others wouldn't vote for.

If I was asked to submit the all-time greatest songs, I'd throw-in like 20 Beatles songs, instead of anything from Green Day or the B-52s.

I don't know why you'd think that each of our personal quirky tastes should parallel the choice of the masses. I don't even like pop music for the most part. And you know why they call it pop. So how would any list of songs I'd come up with be anything other than my favorites only?
