Disorder is going away

Here is an email I got from Mike today:

With the very sad shuttering of Disorder my Bob Dylan Radio Hour (remember I
originated the name 22 months before Dylan's own show debuted) is what I have
to call collateral damage. For now it is gone. I say "for now" because I aim
to find it a safe harbor. I have acres of material I haven't had time to do,
and I won't let it vanish without a whimper.

The work on Deep Tracks is lots of fun, but I still miss my Dylan Hour
tremendously.

On Sirius's Loft page (SIRIUS Satellite Radio - The Loft)

there's this:
Disorder
Weekdays Noon – 6 ET, Sundays 3 – 6 pm ET
Starts December 1
On Meg Griffin's show there's no censorship, no rules and no boundaries.

So apparently now "Disorder" is a program and not a channel.

I suppose that's some consolation, even though we still no longer have Ghosty, Larry Kirwan, or Rick Allison.

Hey, I'll take a good 6 hour Disorder Show, that would be like her whole shift on Disorder. I can certainly live with that. OH YEAH! Then Vin on there too, this channel is looking better all the time.
 
Here’s a reply I got from Sirius after I sent them a note expressing my disappointment with the cancellation of Disorder, and also suggesting that they put The Village on Sirius in place of Coffeehouse:

Dear Larry,

Thanks for taking the time to write with your thoughts on the new channel line-up. Merging the two sets of music channels was a very difficult task, since so many people were passionate about each service and what they have been listening to for years. We did our best, based on customer surveys from both companies, to keep the channels that reached the most listeners and performed the best in overall satisfaction. And, in some cases, we actually blended the two channels combining the best personalities from Sirius and XM to create a new combined channel.

I really appreciate hearing your thoughts on The Village and Sirius Disorder. As you may know, we have limited space on the network and only have room for 69 commercial-free music channels. Because of that, there is no immediate plan to bring The Village over to Sirius. The good news is that we are creating a new home for free-form/eclectic music and have moved many of the shows from Sirius Disorder over to The Loft, including Meg Griffin, who will host a daily show from noon to 6 starting December 1st, Vin Scelsa, David Johansen, Lou Reed, Larry Kirwan, and others. You can check out the full line-up by going to the Loft homepage on XMRadio.com or Sirius.com.

I also encourage you to take the time to download our new channel line-up, scroll through the dial and discover some of the new options you have. You may find something new that you like or may have missed in the past.

According to FMBQ, Larry Kirwan's Celtic Crush will resurface on The Spectrum. The Spectrum's page on the Sirius web site confirms this.

So, just the Bob Dylan Radio hour and The Kennedy's Dharma Cafe are left as orphans. It looks like we still have Disorder.....just spread all over the place in a somewhat disorderly manner! :)

Wouldn't it have just been easier to just leave the channel intact? ;)

Hey.......I've got a GREAT idea! Why not take all these wild, wonderful and weird programs we keep hearing on a bunch of different channels and put them all in one place?

Why, I bet I could even think of a good name for this new channel if I put my mind to it.

You know, I was reading the "Bad Coffee" thread on this forum while listening to Vin this morning describe how clueless the Sirius suits were regarding Disorder.....they apparently just let Disorder end without a thought about its listeners or the unique brand of people and programming it contained......and then it became clear to me why Coffeehouse not only survived, but ended up on both platforms.

They never even considered keeping Disorder on the combined service. It wasn't until many of us complained that they said.......WTF?? Disorder??? We had a channel named Disorder??? Who knew?? :) ;)

Think about it. If they had known about how passionate and vocal we were (and are) about Meg are her wonderful creation, if any of those suits had ever actually listened to Vin or Meg or Larry or David or Michael or Ghosty or Pete & Maura, perhaps Disorder would have would have been the channel that made it over to XM, The Loft kept intact as the great singer/songwriter channel it was, and Coffeehouse the channel sent to that great Starbucks in the sky.

Or maybe I'm just fantasizing about one of those alternate universes......

Oh well, as Vin said.....lemonade.

OK, This may seem trivial, but: As much as I will miss Disorder, especially the Kennedys, I won't miss the constant repetition of the channel name. The constant repetition of "Sirius Disorder" in station ID's after every 2 songs, the ads for Disorder read with a funny accent, Meg working the word Disorder into every 3rd sentence she spoke... I'm actually disappointed to hear her new show is going to be called Disorder!! But the mix of music that could be found on Disorder and, I assume, Meg's new show--that's a good thing!
 
I have been listening to The Loft now for about an hour this morning and I still miss Disorder.

I'm not even sure what the vibe for this station (Loft) is. Meh.
 
I heard a little bit of Meg Griffin's show today, it still sounded more like "The Loft" than "Disorder".
