Damn! It's Hot Out!!!

My family's original plan was to go to York Beach Sunday but after a long day Saturday in North Conway they changed their mind. Almost bumped into ya!

Probably not. You most likely would've been up in the York Beach center area, where Short Sands beach is (yellow arrow), and the arcades, and Goldenrod taffy place, and the pizza and ice cream shops, and gift shops; whereas we were down at York Harbor beach (blue arrow), where there are boats going by.

This is the current temp in our section of town. I took a brief lunchtime walk. The "feels like" temp is spot-on.

They are saying some relief tomorrow with full cool down on Thursday. High on Thursday is 22c (72f).

My son and I are going to see "Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning" tonight not because we have any love for the movie (we had planned to see it when it streamed). But it is 3 hours in an Air Conditioned theatre and it is the only one out now we think we can stand.

ETA: found out this is a sequel to a movie we haven't seen. Tried to watch a summary youtube video of part 1 and now we are even more confused. But 3 hours in A/C watching a series of events that I will not understand. Better than 3 hours sweating.

That sucks. I'll refrain from mentioning the temp in our house.

We have 3 non-functional indoor air conditioners. And our landlord wants $300/unit/season if we get them functional. Last year there are only about 21 total days which were like today to suffer through. If highs are in the 20s(c) then it is manageable with just fans.

On Sunday we went out for supper for the same reason. We wound up having to go to 3 restaurants to get seated. It happened to be the night of the NBA game 7 so lots of bookings. And one of our choices had burned down.

We put our AC in the living room window over the weekend. My wife and I slept in the living room last night (me until 5am, then spent the last hour upstairs). My son, who sets his dorm room to 74 (if I remember right), slept in his room upstairs.

I don't mind occasional upper 90s, because we have good A/C. But while winter weather is sometimes depressing, I think I'd miss not having all the seasons.

My car said that it was 104 when I left work this afternoon.

I went to the dentist, got a root canal, and it still said 98 when I left.

It's only supposed to hit 89 tomorrow with a 60% chance of rain.
I'm supposed to be at the noon Mud Hens game.

It's not been a fantastic week.

I used to feel the same way. But roof raking, salting the driveway and worrying about slipping and breaking something are no longer desirable conditions.

We went to the beach yesterday afternoon, where the air temp was 95, and the water temp was 58. For some reason we're not aware of, tons of sand dollars were washing up on the shore. And all the sand dollar fans - including Mrs. Scotch - were collecting them.



None of these were alive. A few of the ones pictured are dark, but they were totally smooth. So perhaps they were more freshly not alive. Live sand dollars have a dark green, velvety covering of cilia, which is how they move. These were all carried by the current to the water's edge.

For years, we didn't see any whole sand dollars. Then one day last year, we got 3 or 4. But this was wild.

If they were Canadian sand dollars the tariff would make more of them die. But our dollar is only worth 70 cents so it would have worked out about even.

Technically if they're Canadian sand dollars, they're American. Same with sand dollars from Panama and Greenland.
