Except that the RSN my Royals airs on ( Bally Sports ) is thiiiiiiiiiiiis close to going tits up. They've already had to bail on some teams, & MLB has made them available. They're also bailing on certain NBA & NHL teams - & some of those games are ending up on over-the-air tee vee like it's 19friggin'77,
From what I've seen, one of two things has been happening:
1) MLB starts a new channel in those areas. This channel is available to any provider in the area, plus also available for $20/mo.
2) Scripps Networks has also been taking some teams and starting their own sports division.
On the surface, not much changes. Sure, the channel number and graphics change, but it's still the same RSN concept.
I've heard from one person that some teams (Dodgers, Cubs, Yankees) will be allowed to keep their channels, whereas the smaller-market teams will go on MLB.tv national basis. Some of these bigger channels like Marquee in Chicago will go national and allow Cubs fans all across the country to watch on the actual channel OR on MLB.tv.
Of course, this also comes from the same person who was on a phone chat with a Hulu CSR who insisted Hulu was getting Marquee on a national basis with no blackouts. (The phone caller could hear the typing in the background, thus assuming the info was on the CSR's screen.) Oh yeah, this phone call happened summer of 2022, if not prior... blaming COVID for why it hasn't yet happened.
That load of hogwash cannot be further from the truth.
