Last month, I saw Shinedown with the opening act Bush. Which was an incredible concert.
The past couple of days, I bought couple more tickets for next year. One of them is which features various country artists in one day. Some of the main artists are Bret Michaels, Brothers Osborne, Dierks Bentley and Luke Bryan.
Another concert which I’m going to surprise my partner with is Lady Gaga. He was prepared to buy tickets which I sort of lied to him that prices were outrageous. Which technically they are, but I scored couple reasonable price tickets which weren’t pricey.
Just announced and tickets go on sale next week are Ed Sheeran. I did have tickets to see him couple years ago in Vegas. But he canceled that show due to issues with the stage. I got a refund; at least we’re going to try and see him again. At least we won’t have to travel far.

I know Brett Michaels is in Poison. The event is mostly country artists that weekend. I guess he cross over where the red dirt road at.

This show was tonight. This is my son's favourite band. I enjoy their music but I would not say any song's are my favourite. This was the forth time we have seen them. Of the 4 this was the least entertaining. I will get into this later.
Due to my poor planning and transit disruption we pretty much missed the opening act Day Glow. So I won't bother talking about them. They seemed ok for the 1/2 song we heard.
The show was at Budweiser Stage. I think I have talked about this venue before. It is an open air venue. The first 3 blocks of seats are covered. The 4th block is open air. The 5th block is lawn general admission seating with no chairs. We were in the 4th block just under the edge of the roof (row C).
The good thing about the stadium is excellent acoustics. It also has great sightlines from wherever you are seating. It also is outside which can be nice in the summer. Tonight was not summer. We have had a warm week but today was decidedly nippy. About 60F with a cool wind off the lake. There was no rain which was good.
What makes it a nice stadium for a lot of bands worked against this band. The 3 previous times we have seen them (once at the hockey rink in Columbus and twice at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto) they had light shows that spanned the whole ice area. The ice area was all general admission people. (The ice was covered but the easiest reference.) This combination produced an excellent intimate and engaging stage show that really stood out.
This did not happen here. The lights were more confined to the stage which made it more like other bands. And the good acoustics of the stadium were cancelled by everybody in the audience singing along with the band. (Note I am not holding this against them -- singing is expected. This was just louder then most concerts I have been to.) I didn't since I didn't know too many of the actual lyrics.
The advantage of the venue is when they did move to their B stage, they moved through the crowd and some people in the seats got a good view of them. I should note this is a 2 person band. A bass guitarist and a drummer. The drummer had 3 distinct drum sets set up in the stadium (1 on the stage, one on the B stage, and 1 at a third location in the 4th block of seats.
The show was still enjoyable. The setlist below was from Cincinnati from Thursday (the 18th) where they opened their tour. Toronto was the 2nd show (and 3rd tomorrow). The debuts noted below were not debuts tonight but are for the tour. Another quirk with this venue is an 11PM curfew. The actual setlist tonight was short 1 song which I have marked with a strikethrough. There was no official encore. They drummer was moving from his 3rd location back to the stage (in the dark) so there was a pause. Not the typical encore charade.

Did couch tour 4k this time (which of course costs more) for Phish at the Hampton Coliseum last night. That place in VA is a legendary Phish venue. I got to see them there twice when I was a teen. One of their all time best live albums is Hampton Comes Alive and besides the obvious fun Peter Frampton pun the whole album is filled with bangers. They probably played their all time best Harry Hood on that album and they also had some silly fun with covering Will Smith's Gettin' Jiggy with It:
Fish took the lead and Trey took over drums. Fishman by far has the worst voice of the 4 so it's not like "good" but it's so much fun it's GREAT!
They also covered Tubthumping hahahaha:

They second show on Sunday was cut short. They say concerts here go on rain or shine but apparently not with lightning. They dropped the opening act and twentyone pilots started an hour early and they shortened their setlist but they still had to stop short due to the intense thunderstorms they had. And since they did actually play some songs, no refunds.

This show was tonight. We got great seats. 300 level but row 4 (no climb!). And this is a hockey rink so there is a reasonable incline between rows so no obstruction of view even if the cute girls 2 rows down stood up and jiggled. They were likely in their late 20s and they were the only people I saw under 40 at the show other than my son. The crowd was primarily 40s to 50s as Bryan Adams is primarily an 80s+ artist. And I am a 70s guy but I didn't become musically aware til very late 70s so I am kind of an outlier. There were some people over 60 there but not too many.
I had no annoyances with any of the crowd. My son said he smelled some weed but I did not. He also was within earshot of someone who brought a tambourine to the show and used it off beat. I did not hear this but he said once he heard it he couldn't unhear it. Also, the people next to him were relocated because the lady on the other side of them was wearing too much perfume. Some other people were relocated to their seats later on. I think that is how the stadium crew works. They have maybe 4 free seats and the rest is musical chairs if they need to relocate people.
Bryan Adams had an opening act: The Sheepdogs. To me they were loud and tolerable but utterly boring and forgettable. No songs grabbed me. Looking them up they are from Saskatoon, SK. And they are the first unsigned band to make it to the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine (take that Dr. Hook!).
The tour name Bryan is on is "Roll With The Punches" which I believe is also the name of his new album. About 15 minutes prior to the him coming out there was a wrestling bell. On the screen was what we were supposed to assume was Bryan standing back to the crowd perfectly still and motionless. The rest of the screen was white. Various people and animals would come on the screen and do stuff and then go away. After the house lights went down and the house music stopped, some kids came and pushed the person or object out of view. Then Bryan comes back into view and runs toward the camera and the show starts. It was quite cool and my description does not do it justice.
He was/is a fantastic showman. He engaged the audience. We also all got a little light for our wrists and they were set to random timings controlled by a computer in the sound booth. We could see the board which showed a light for each group of lights. They could blink about 5 different colours. This created interesting effects throughout the show. He also had people dancing and acting crazy on the screen for "You Belong To Me" and "Twist and Shout". Nobody looked like a CEO.
He was supported by 3 other musicians. They were all Canadian. One from Toronto and 2 from Vancouver, BC. That got a good round of applause.
He had 3 screens behind him. The 2 on the outside showed video of him on staging singing and/or playing his guitar. The third showed the crowd or videos depending on the song. During "Roll With The Punches" a giant boxing glove balloon floated above the crowd. Run by little fans and obviously completely controlled by remote. It only lasted the 1 song.
We were far from the main stage but the B stage was right below us. He did his first and last number from there and fist bumped fans when he went between stages.
He did a couple of his slower songs but generally the music was very uptempo and rock sound. Went with the opener who had a very rock sound. He played for about 2 hours and 20 minutes without a real break or an encore break. He did 3 songs by request. Before the show started there was a QR code which you could request a song. He chose the 3 he wanted to play.
He also did quite a nice tribute to Tina Turner before he played "It's Only Love". The last time we saw him was before Tina had passed and he did a fake introduction then as if she was going to join him. Not this time.

My one grievance with Bryan and his opener and countless other bands I have heard is that they do a fake ending to their song. They stop and it looks like the song is over. They get their applause then the start it up again and maybe sing another chorus or sometimes just do a guitar sequence. Then everybody applauds again. He did this on almost all songs. It was annoying. And this is not unique to him. I have seen it on may shows and just ignored it. This time I am airing my grievance. There was also a short guitar and drum solo which I have previously commented on. The good news is tonight each was short. I actually don't mind the guitar solo that much but despise the drum solos. My son is the opposite. So between the 2 of us, if its a solo, one of us will be unhappy.

It's been a weird year for me as concerts go. Last year I went to 8 ( a lot for me with the weird hours I work ) - this year? Zip. Even the bands I would've gone to see have skipped KC so far this year.
But I did go to a couple of shows the last 2 nights, so I'm counting those since they both involved live music.
Friday night I saw the comedian Paul F. Tompkins on his "Varietourpia" tour.
( I didn't take any photos at this one, so the tour poster will have to do )
As the name implies, it's an olden-timey variety show. PFT did some standup at the beginning, backed by a 4 piece live band. The other musical act was a live funk singer named Medusa, who was really good. And there was an even comedian magic from a magician named Rachel Wax. Very funny, & the tricks were cool. A very entertaining show all around from one of my favorites.
Then last night, I went to "Evil Dead In Concert".
"Evil Dead" has been one of my favorite horror movies ( hell...one of my favorite movies period ) even since I saw it on an all-night scary movie marathon at the drive-in back in...1982 or '83, I guess? This was the first time I've seen it in a theater since then.
I'd been noticing that ticket sales were NOT good, but then the other day when I checked there was a lot fewer available seats. And the price was about half of what it was when I bought my ticket ( oops ). So I figured they sold a bunch at the lower price.
Nope. When I got there last night, I was told I could upgrade to a better seat. They ended up taking out the whole section I was originally in, leaving just the first half of the floor. So I went from row AA to row E.
I hope it's doing better in other cities, because it's a really good presentation. The small ensemble that played the score did a great job. My only real complaint is that they encouraged audience participation, which lead to a bunch of unfunny jagoffs making "jokes" at top volume. They didn't ruin the film for me because I've seen it a gazillion times already, but I would recommend losing the "poor man's MST3K" element. Scream, sure. Laugh, sure. But otherwise, shut up.

The Darkness is a classic rock band?
Apart from that, I'm surprised that some of these bands are out on the road so much.

You can say the same about Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Strokes, or LCD Soundsystem. None of them are "classic rock". According to SiriusXM, the 2nd generation of classic rock ends before 1990.
I suppose that they are only a bit early to be classic rock.
In my mind, classic rock ends around 1980, but I suppose that it's a sliding scale.
Google says that classic rock runs from the mid 1960's to the mid 1990's.

I finally decided to purchase Pop Evil tickets. In the past, I wasn’t able to attend their concerts, but now I’ll finally get to see them. I’ve also been listening to some Sabaton, and they don’t sound bad at all. They mainly sing Viking war–themed songs. Either way, I bought a cheap seat so I can enjoy Pop Evil, and if Sabaton isn’t to my liking, I can always step out since I didn’t spend much money.
I really wish Shinedown would announce their next tour lineup. I saw them last year and absolutely loved hearing them live. Hopefully, they come to Phoenix again.
