Censoring was not XM'x way on xL channels. But its Sirius now so who knows.

The only channels that were edited were on the pop side (and in that case, they were the radio versions of songs, not really edited). Nothing on the hip-hop or rock stations was ever edited before...I was blaming XM, so what gives! They won't change it on there own...let them know.

Nine Inch Nails - Closer / Censored

I heard that one on Saturday and it was censored.

FAR worse than that, though, is Killing in the Name Of by Rage Against the Machine. They completely cut the song in half and don't even bother playing the second half. That was really odd to hear the song just end abruptly. Apparently SiriusXM will do what they tell them. :yesshake:

I loved Lithium when Sirius brought it and was really happy to see it survive the channel merge, but censored music is really annoying. Especially when you pay for it. I can only hope its part of the merge and eventually the tracks will be overwritten.

The thing is, Lucy was never an xL channel... it fairly consistently played radio edits.

Thread on whether Lucy should be xL from xmfan

Lucy is a hits channel and hits channels are not XL on XM because hits channels are designed to appeal to the masses. Also, the channels are not censored but edited for content. Censored means that a song would not get played no matter what. The song gets played, just edited.

While you may not want to hear edited songs there are plenty of parents and non-parents who don't want to hear swear words in their music and they have every right to have that on a service. XM is providing a service that has a little bit of everything for everyone. If you absolutely need to hear a swear word in your song then go out and but the unedited version and listen to it all you want.

Sirius XM Lithium is far closer to Lucy than it is to Sirius Lithium (just as Sirius XM Octane is far closer to Squizz than Sirius Octane).

I was listening to the Pulse last night and a Staind song was censored.. so I called Sirius to voice my complaint.. the girl on the other end was very understanding and said they have had an influx of calls (well she didn't say influx, she spoke in ebonics) and that they are working to fix this issue and it might take 2 weeks.

also, another thing I noticed..since the merger my alert doesn't work on certain stations..I voiced that complaint as well.

These problems are related...

Sirius and XM have two different implementations of song/artist seeking. They accordingly transmit different PAD data to account for the difference.

Sirius transmits a unique ID for each song and artist in their library. The song/artist seek looks for that ID. XM's system looks at the text displayed on the screen. So XM's library didn't have song/artist IDs in their database.

Indeed, the most foolproof way for now to identify the channels that are running off of XM's library (and are thus, for all intents and purposes, XM channels) is to look for those that don't transmit artist IDs (song IDs are creeping into the XM libraries... I would suspect that they have an intern going through the Sirius library and copying IDs over to the XM).

Without those IDs, alerts aren't going to work on Sirius; so on the XM-originating channels I listed in another forum, alerts aren't going to work.

On the censorship issue, unless a song was regularly played by one of the old xL channels on XM, there probably was no uncensored version of the track in XM's library. Thus, channels still running off the XM library are, by and large, going to be censored.

The pulse is a business safe channel , and they will play edited stuff most of the time which I understand with since it is a poppish channel.

It's easy.

Lithium (a channel with 90's grunge and alternative) should never have been mixed with Lucy.

But they didn't have room for both and it looked like they picked the Lithium style and the reaction people had to losing Lucy forced them to change the playlist, to try and keep people happy.

I agree with you. You can't really combine the two channels into one.

Good stuff levi and the Sirius system automatically generated this PID info when the song was added to their library. This will take a good bit of time for them to add this info to the XM Library and if the doing it by automated system there maybe many cases where you'll have to save the song to your song/artist seek again in order for it to work properly, unless the PID info is exactly the same. I know there have even been times where the PID info would change. Maybe they would remove one song version and/or add another, then the song/artist seek didn't work anymore, so you'd have to save the song/artist again.

The sad thing is that Sirius once again keeps the subscribers in the dark. Instead of just saying yes we are aware of this issue and it it our goal or plan to have all the songs in the XM library fixed to work with the Sirius tuners artist/song seek by Jan 1. I mean anything rather that just ignore it.

OH H.....EYE OH
This channel is slowly getting my approval. I have been listening while doing things around the house today and the music choice has been to my liking.

I've heard less censored than the week after the merge, but there are still very noticeable edits.

I'm hoping that they are working their way through it all. I don't know if they are updating the ID tags at the same time or not. It would make sense that they might do them together if it's a manual process for both.

Wow, this is really sad. I have been listening to NPR the last six months because Sirius programming was to shallow and now it seems they taken the great XM names (boneyard, Lucy) and destroyed those channels. Buzzsaw is nothing like the Boneyard was.

This merger sucks for the subscriber.

I have been constantly harassing Sirius regarding the censorship.. :bigahh:

I was told this week..3 channels will remain censored..I don't have the list handy right now (its in my home email box).. but I know Lithium was not 1 of the 3..

That is good to here Lithium is uncensored , but I wonder about the other three that are probably going to make the new business safe channel list.

Ok that is fine with me because they are the channels that I think would be played at most businesses that have Sirius XM.
