I was listening to the Pulse last night and a Staind song was censored.. so I called Sirius to voice my complaint.. the girl on the other end was very understanding and said they have had an influx of calls (well she didn't say influx, she spoke in ebonics) and that they are working to fix this issue and it might take 2 weeks.
also, another thing I noticed..since the merger my alert doesn't work on certain stations..I voiced that complaint as well.
These problems are related...
Sirius and XM have two different implementations of song/artist seeking. They accordingly transmit different PAD data to account for the difference.
Sirius transmits a unique ID for each song and artist in their library. The song/artist seek looks for that ID. XM's system looks at the text displayed on the screen. So XM's library didn't have song/artist IDs in their database.
Indeed, the most foolproof way for now to identify the channels that are running off of XM's library (and are thus, for all intents and purposes, XM channels) is to look for those that don't transmit artist IDs (song IDs are creeping into the XM libraries... I would suspect that they have an intern going through the Sirius library and copying IDs over to the XM).
Without those IDs, alerts aren't going to work on Sirius; so on the XM-originating channels I listed in another forum, alerts aren't going to work.
On the censorship issue, unless a song was regularly played by one of the old xL channels on XM, there probably was no uncensored version of the track in XM's library. Thus, channels still running off the XM library are, by and large, going to be censored.
