It looks like we have a match. For your first date, may I suggest a tapas bar?
This unequivocally proves that these maps are bullshit. Some writer for a late night show conceived of a comical list of hates, and then made a map of it. There is no freakin' way that a majority of people in each state came up with such a disparate list of hates.
The only one of these maps I've seen that may be real, is the favorite beers. Because there are only like 5 different beers among all 50 states, so many states had the same favorite.
I'll never turn down an opportunity to disagree with Meme, so here it goes:
There IS authentic tapas (probably Spanish, I'm guessing), and then there's the annoying and pretentious marketing trend, wherein yuppies can be attracted to a restaurant by simply renaming their appetizers "tapas". It's trendy to say "tapas" and to call things "tapas"; it's like sriracha, or Greek yogurt, or mesquite, or chipotle (the style, not the restaurant). These things all DO exist, but there are thousands of food items that now incorporate these buzzwords into the same old crap, because it's the "in" thing to say.
"Tapas" means "appetizers". They can be anything little. Tapas isn't a dish or a cuisine, it's part of a behavior. When people go out for tapas in Spain they bar hop and try a couple of appetizers at each bar.
How could anyone hate bar hopping with appetizers?
This may be 100% true but goddamn does it sound like hipster dribble.
All true, but when people suddenly start referring to the same old appetizer menu as tapas, it's pretentious.
I've never seen that happen. All the tapas joints here started up as tapas joints.

While I love that movie and that is one of the best clips, you are implying that people speaking intelligently bothers me. That is not it at all. What bothers me are people who put words together that appear intelligent in order to seem enlightened when in reality what they are saying is nonsensical bullshit. Tapas are a small Spanish dishes served with drinks. That's it. That's the definition. I reaffirm my stance that saying tapas are "part of a behavior" is pure hipster dribble.

If you asked people 20 years ago what tapas is, most wouldn't know. Now most do: why is that?
Maybe Rick Steves? I know there was a big Spanish regional food fad 15 years ago or so. Trying to find the source of a fad is difficult.
