13: Why Me - Irene Cara

Surprised they didn't mention her recent passing.

2: All Night Long (All Night) - Lionel Richie

I picked this one (so did Hectic). One week off. Rats!

1: Say Say Say - Paul McCartney & Michael Jackson

At least one of the people I compete against picked this one. The guy running the contest just lists the songs, not who picked what (until giving the results later).

I was fully expecting this.... :)
13: Why Me - Irene Cara

Surprised they didn't mention her recent passing.
I was surprised too.
#60 Rainbow "Street Of Dreams"
#68 Kiss "Lick It Up"
#92 Rodney Dangerfield "Rappin' Rodney"

Like these ones!
I remember the Kiss and Rodney Dangerfield music videos too.
Will never get into the top 40
#64 Bonnie Tyler "Take Me Back"
This was Bonnie's follow-up to Total Eclipse of the Heart. It peaked at #46.
#76 Rick James/Smokey Robinson "Ebony Eyes"
This was a big jump. "Ebony Eyes" was bubbling at #110 the week before.
#88 Anne Murray "A Little Good News"
This is the week before "A little Good News" fell off the chart for the second and final time.

#81 Industry "State Of The Union"
#89 Streets "If Love Should Go"
#92 Rodney Dangerfield "Rappin' Rodney"
These are former bubblers...

I noticed #93 was missing from the list. Atlantic Starr "Touch A Four Leaf Clover" peaked at #87. I remember it from from a previous bubbles week.

Comments:
  • Paul Rodgers was the lead singer of Free and Bad Company.
  • "Boys" was the Mary Jane Girls debut. The song was written, arranged, and produced by Rick James. I always thought of them as a copy of Vanity 6.
  • Hero (Wind Beneath My Wings) is the one of the predecessors to Bette Midler's 1989 #1. Lou Rawls recorded it too. His version reached #65 on 4/16/83.
Playlist:

Usually there is at least 1 song on the bubbling chart I recognize. Not this time (unless you count the version of "Wind Beneath My Wings" by a different artist).

Roger Whittaker was the first to record The Wind Beneath My Wings, on New Year's Eve 1981. He included it on an album cleverly titled The Wind Beneath My Wings.
The song has also been recorded by Gary Morris, Lee Greenwood, Willie Nelson, Sheena Easton, Jack Jones, Jan Howard, Floyd Cramer, Perry Como, Kenny Rogers, Patti LaBelle, Ray Price, Idina Menzel, The Captain & Tennille, Gladys Knight & The Pips and more than 150 other artists. Here is the original:

No surprises either, but you’re close to the Hectic/Scotch nexus.
We need researchers to investigate this phenomenon more.
