80s0n8 Big 40 Countdown Schedule

Chris Christian (real name: Lon Christian Smith) had one hit as a member of Cotton, Lloyd & Christian: I Go To Pieces reached #66 in 1975. The song was written by Del Shannon and was a 1965 top-ten hit for Peter & Gordon. Christian released seven singles (including duets) betwen 1981 and 1985. He wrote Love Song Of The Year, which Elvis Presley recorded for his 1975 album Promised Land, and he co-wrote the Carpenters' 1981 adult contemporary hit Back In My Life Again.

I Want You, I Need You featured Cheryl Ladd on harmony – and if Mrs. sadchild thinks it's awful, she probably won't like Christian's 1982 single Make It Last. I swear he stole Christopher Cross' backing band!

I often see these second hit attempts by OHW artists and wonder if only this song did better it could least make it to the "Are they or aren't they" thread/discussion.

Same. I've seen artists with one top 40 and then their second hit is like a #47 charting single. But then I wonder, is it better to be:

A) a one-hit wonder

B) a two-hit wonder but then music snobs like us try to take your second hit away from you

The Temptations' Oh What A Night stalled at #104 on the Bubbling Under chart. It was also released in France and Australia but failed to chart. The song, originally Oh What A Nite, was written by Dells lead singer Johnny Funches and baritone singer Marvin Junior – yes, that was his real name – and was first recorded by the Dells in May 1956. Released as a single in September, it reached #4 on the R&B chart but failed to make the Top 100. In 1969, the Dells recorded a new version and corrected the spelling. Oh What A Night went to number one on the R&B chart in September and reached #10 on the Hot 100. Funches and Junior also wrote this 1957 Dells single, which should have been a hit – but wasn't:

Marvin Junior – yes, that was his real name
What if he named his son Marvin?

"Closer To The Heart" was a 70s Rush song. Re-released in 1981?
