For all you country-disco lovers in the audience – assuming there are any – here is a song for you. Connie Smith had 20 top-ten country hits in the 1960s-70s including Just One Time, Once A Day, Baby's Back Again, Just For What I Am and Ain't Had No Lovin'. Her 1977 remake of Andy Gibb's I Just Want To Be Your Everything reached #13. That is a mystery I can't explain. It was her final top-20 country hit.

At least one of the others guessed this one. I knew it hit #1 in August. But I didn't realize it would stay there through to the second week of October.

Comments:
#102 - "Heart and Soul" is the original, but Huey Lewis and the News got the hit.
#106 - The lead singer of Slave is Steve Arrington. @sadchild mention him several weeks back (link). I remembered the song after hearing it. They had several R&B hits before Steve went solo.
#107 - What is going on with these Billy Idol misses? The live version of Mony Mony reached the #1 spot in 1987.
#108 - I had never heard of Teddy Baker. This track is my fav from this week. From Teddy Baker's YouTube Channel: Teddy Baker's music career began at the age of nine. His love for performing was surpassed only by his passion for writing the songs that he sang. In the late seventies, his interest in writing led him to Georgia where he had the opportunity to work with many artists and writers in the Atlanta music scene. It was not long before his talent was recognized by the record industry. In the early eighties, Teddy released his first charted single with Polygram Records called, "It's Over" which was produced by songwriter/musician, Paul Davis ("I Go Crazy," "Cool Night"). Today, Teddy Baker is using his God-given talents to write and sing songs that are filled with the faith, hope, and the grace that he has experienced in his own spiritual journey.
Absolutely...the beat isn't THAT different from the Gibb version. I thought it worked pretty well as a country/pop song, though. Just goes to show, a well constructed song can withstand some tweaking.
Idol was one of those guys who were WAY bigger on MTV than the radio for the first couple years of their careers. Radio took a little while to catch up with some of those guys. I dunno if it was his "punk" image ( as ridiculous as that seems now ) or what.
1981/10/10
(despite that Alan said it was 1981/10/09 -- one of many errors this week)
40. BURNIN' FOR YOU - BLUE OYSTER CULT
"No, I don't have any tickets for Blue Oyster Cult. Were were you last time? I almost ended up working at 7-11."
38. ALIEN - ATLANTA RYTHM SECTION

35. THEME FROM "GREATEST AMERICAN HERO" (BELIEVE IT OR NOT) - JOEY SCARBURY
33. GENERAL HOSPI-TALE - THE AFTERNOON DELIGHTS
So awful. We heard this in the car on the way home from the bank. It's not even good for a novelty song.
32. BREAKING AWAY - BALANCE
This is one that I always enjoy for its goofiness the rare times I hear it, but can never remember who the artist is. The late Bob Kulick on guitar. His brother Bruce was in KISS from 1984-1996.
29. THE THEME FROM HILL STREET BLUES - MIKE POST FEATURING LARRY CARLTON
But in the same way I was a Star Wars fanatic and loved the Meco "Ewok Celebration" rap song in 1983, I bet most people who were hot and heavy into that soap thought it was great... for about a month.
Damn there's a lot of #1s in '89. I'm sure I'm missing some too!

Here's a song that reaches #41 on the last Hot 100 of the 80s. It holds #41 for the first week of the 90s. Then moves to (and peaks at) #40 for the chart dated 1/13/1990. It's a #40 peaking song that we'll never hear on the VJ! I just found that interesting.
