Here's a song that reaches #41 on the last Hot 100 of the 80s. It holds #41 for the first week of the 90s. Then moves to (and peaks at) #40 for the chart dated 1/13/1990. It's a #40 peaking song that we'll never hear on the VJ! I just found that interesting.
I don't remember this one at all. "I Want You" debuted on October 7, 1989 so that was a slow ascent. This definitely qualifies as a lost hit!

#56 Christopher Williams "Talk To Myself"

Holy Bobby Brown!
This the start of the whole New Jack Swing genre. I always thought this song was dumb. "Promises" (R&B #7) and "I'm Dreamin' (R&B #1)" were better songs by far.
#62 Vesta "Congratulations"

The R&B predecessor to Wilson Phillips "You're In Love", Alanis "You Oughta Know", Adele "Someone Like You" and probably billion other "you found someone else but I really honestly do hope you're happy with her (actually it shoula been me you effin sonofabitch)".
I remember this one well. Vesta should have been bigger and lost her life tragically. I think the mother of these songs was "It Should Have Been Me" which was originally recorded in 1963 by Kim Weston. The Yvonne Fair version (1976) really drives the concept home.

#65 Teddy Riley/Guy "My Fantasy"
I see Teddy Riley is separating himself from Guy. He evolved into an notable producer in the 90s and was very much involved in the production of New Jack Swing records. I recently discovered he's producing K-POP acts these days.
#71 Bardeux "I Love The Bass"
@sadchild - the 1-900 girls are back, but there's been a line up change.
#66 Billy Ocean "Licence to Chill"
#73 White Lion "Radar Love"
#74 Debbie Gibson "We Could Be Together"
#77 Stevie B "Girl I Am Searching For You"
#85 Winger "Hungry"
#88 Icehouse "Touch The Fire"
#91 Starship "Wild Again"
This list really speaks the shifts that's occurring at this time.

#82 Patti LaBelle "If You Asked Me To"

Later covered by Celine Dion (#1 CAN/#4 US)
I bet Patti was pissed! LOL.

Looking at that chart, there's soooo many songs I don't think I know. Around that time I was delivering pizza for a living & was in my car a LOT. So you'd think I listened to the radio, but I guess not. I know I listened to tapes in the car then, & maybe more AOR radio? Weird how foreign that list seems to me.

"Hey, Mickey! Hey, Mickey!" The cheering on Toni Basil's Mickey is provided by the cheerleaders of Dorsey High School in the Crenshaw district of Los Angeles. The full name of the school is Susan Miller Dorsey High School. Dorsey was the first female superintendent of the Los Angeles public school system. The song was written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn and was originally titled Kitty. Racey, a British quartet formed in 1976, recorded it in August 1979. Here it is:

I just clicked it and it plays just fine for me. Maybe you should get rid of your Commodore 64 and get a newer computer. Try this video. It includes both versions of the song:

Mister semi wanted everyone to see Weird Al Yankovic's Ricky, a 1983 parody of Toni Basil's Mickey. This was the first video Weird Al ever filmed. It can be viewed on YouTube but the person who posted it has disabled it for viewing on other websites (such as DRC). Lucy is played by Tress MacNelle, who has voiced characters in more than 2,200 cartoon episodes including Futurama, The Simpsons, The Centurions, Alvin & The Chipmunks, House Of Mouse, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Chip 'N' Dale Rescue Rangers, Rugrats, Animaniacs and Tiny Toon Adventures.

Here is the audio – and you'll have to go to YouTube to see the video. Ai-yi-yi!
