11. WHO'S HOLDING DONNA NOW - DEBARGE
7. SUMMER OF '69 - BRYAN ADAMS
For anyone who doesn't already know...
Bryan Adams was born in late 1959 and therefore was nine years old in the summer of 1969. For anybody who’s wondered why a nine year old would be meeting a girl while working at a drive-in and being in a band that broke up when one of the members got married, here's what he really means by ‘the summer of 69’. Adams confirmed the real meaning personally:
"There is a slight misconception it’s about a year, but it’s not. ‘69’ has nothing to do about a year, it has to do with a sexual position"
2. SHOUT - TEARS FOR FEARS
My friend's son and I both chose this one, we were one week off!

Later the frontman of Mr Big.

Not near as good as "Abacab" or "Abracadabra".

My guess @ #1 was Maniac. Second choice was Every Breath You Take.
#12 is not Elton John. It's Billy Joel.
32 good ones for me on this one. 1983 was a great year.

I had about 19 this week.
That's shocking. I would have guessed it would have been close to a top 10 for them.

This weeks surprises for me.

Add me to the list of people who're surprised by that ZZ Top song not making the Top 40. I woulda thought it just scraped in, at least.
39. YOU'RE DRIVING ME OUT OF MY MIND - LITTLE RIVER BAND
Pretty sure I've never heard this song, which is especially weird since I own their greatest hits CD & I assume it's on there.
#68 Tubes "Tip Of My Tongue"
Surprised that this got that high, because I didn't even know it was a single. The only follow-up to "She's A Beauty" I remember is their cover of "The Monkey Time" that they did with Martha Davis of the Motels ( which went nowhere ). Love that era of The Tubes.
Other than that...this countdown's from the very beginning of my senior year of high school. And as such, brought back a lotta memories. Mostly good. Mostly.

Listening to Alan talk about Maniac, he mentioned it was down from its peak of #1. This is wrong. It was on its way up to #1. Every Breath You Take was in its 8th and final week at #1. The song at #1 ahead of it was Flashdance. The song @ #2 Sweet Dreams would be #1 next week followed immediately by Maniac. It would be nice if they did the most basic of research about chart positions.

Dude
When I heard Alan say "Maniac" had already hit #1 I scratched my head. I was pretty sure it came after. So thanks for clearing that up @IdRatherBeSkiing
IdRatherBeSkiing
Sherbert is NOT and NEVER WILL BE ice cream.
I heard Alan intro to Tell Her About It (the #1 song after Maniac). He said it was the song that knocked Maniac out of #1 (correct) but several weeks ago. It was now on the way down. It was on the way up and would do the knocking about 4 weeks in the future.

Don't think I've shared this on here. Weird Al parodying this song back in 1980. He never released it officially because someone played it for Joel ane he could tell it "hurt his feelings a bit".
Weird Al "It's Still Billy Joel To Me"
1: UPSIDE DOWN - DIANA ROSS
Only my friend's son guessed this right. My friend's old roommate and I weren't even in the top 40. I picked Barbra Streisand "Woman In Love", which debuted this week at #49. The other guy picked "Boogie Oogie Oogie", which did hit #1 in September..... of 1978.
#53 Lenore O'Malley "First Be A Woman"
No wiki page.
#54 Whitesnake "Fool For Your Loving"
A re-recording in 1989 will reach the top 40 on the last week of the decade. I know that one, but not this one.
#57 England Dan Seals "Late At Night"
Half of England Dan & John Ford Coley, gone solo (and country).
#61 Jon & Vangelis "I Hear You Now"
Jon Anderson of Yes.
#72 Kings "Switchin' To Glide/This Beat Goes On"
On a couple of IRBS' old mixtapes.
Never reached the top 40
#42 Pat Benatar "You Better Run"
#52 Linda Clifford "Red Light"
#53 Lenore O'Malley "First Be A Woman"

Sherbert is NOT and NEVER WILL BE ice cream.
That one is pretty hurtful. Most of his stuff is not quite so pointed. Good decision on Al's part.
My pick was Another One Bites the Dust --- until I heard it @ #23. Never made another pick. 1978 ... just a little bit outside.
Yes. The song was and is quite big up here. The drummer for this album goes to my church. He left the band shortly thereafter. If you watch the video you can see him drumming in about 1/2 the shots and his replacement in the other 1/2. They are a Canadian group so no surprise that it didn't crack the top 40.
I am flabergassed at these not cracking top 40 or even top 20.
