80s0n8 Big 40 Countdown Schedule

Whitesnake "Still of the Night" - that one got some airplay. Surprised it never got closer to the top 40.

Also I like the Depeche Mode song "Strangelove" more than the vast majority of the the top 40.

I have about 14 from this list.

Astley produced a song you had posted.
I had posted the Janes Gettin video.

I agree with Jon that Pseudo Echo's version of Funky Town is better than the original.
The guitar is much more fun. My band just started to pick it up before the COVID fiasco started.

Got it . I went back and reread my thread (since I have forgotten which top 10s I had posted) and saw that.

I like Pseudo Echo's version but Lipps Inc was the go to version.

21. Pretty low for an early 80s countdown.

I didn't guess the #1 either. I was thining Abracadabra but ruled it out because I thought that was 1983. My guess was I Can't Go For That or Private Eyes from Hall & Oates.

16. DO I DO - STEVIE WONDER

Did they have to play the long version of this song? Felt like it wouldn't end.

I was just going to post the same thing. And Nina commented on how they had edited it down for the single version. It just went on and on and on.

Good 11
Okay 11
Bad 18

Old comments from last year (it was the following week's countdown).

And my 2018 comments on that same countdown.

39. AND I'M TELLING YOU I'M NOT GOING - JENNIFER HOLIDAY

Testi-freakin-fy, girl! What a voice! Haven't heard this since last year but it gets me every time. Who, in the last 10 years, has made the top 40 and can sing like this? Nobody, I bet!

37. NICE GIRLS - EYE TO EYE

First time on the VJ?

31. HOOKED ON SWING - LARRY ELGART & HIS MANHATTAN SWING ORCHESTRA

My wife really liked this one.

6. HARD TO SAY I'M SORRY - CHICAGO

7. DON'T YOU WANT ME - HUMAN LEAGUE
5. ABRACADABRA - STEVE MILLER
1. EYE OF THE TIGER - SURVIVOR

All three of us picked Survivor. For the tiebreaker, my friend's son picked Steve Miller. My friend's old roommate and I picked Human League. So the person not even alive in the 80s wins again!

#45 Cheap Trick "If You Want My Love"
#51 Missing Persons "Words"
#79 Clash "Should I Stay Or Should I Go"

These shoulda made the 40

Will never reach the top 40
#45 Cheap Trick "If You Want My Love"
#51 Missing Persons "Words"
#56 April Wine "Enough Is Enough"
#60 Dr Hook "Loveline"
#62 707 "Mega Force"
#70 Roberta Flack "I'm The One"
#71 Afrika Bambaataa "Planet Rock"
#72 Aldo Nova "Foolin' Yourself"
#75 Jerry Reed "She Got The Goldmine (I Got The Shaft)"
#77 Dayton "Hot Fun In The Summertime"
#78 Carly Simon "Why"
#79 Clash "Should I Stay Or Should I Go"
#80 Axe "Now Or Never"
#82 Bill Champlin "Sara"
#83 Queen "Calling All Girls"
#85 Walter Murphy "Theme From ET"
#87 Dolly Parton "I Will Always Love You"
#88 John Denver "Seasons Of The Heart"
#89 Foreigner "Luanne"
#90 Joe Fagin "Younger Days"
#91 Reddings "(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay"
#92 Ashford & Simpson "Street Corner"
#94 Scorpions "No One Like You"
#98 Olivia Newton-John "Landslide"
#100 One Way "Cutie Pie"

"If You Want My Love" shoulda hit the Top 40 easily. But that was in the period where Cheap Trick's label has basically given up on them, assuming they were a done deal.

Little surprised that "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" didn't at least graze the lower rungs of the Top 40. Weird.
