The song sounds about the same as I remember. If they sped it up, it wasn't Alvin and the Chipmunks sped up.
I do think the song is not quite as good as I remember it. I didn't like the Purple Rain soundtrack when it came out, until I heard Take Me With U.
I don't think Prince cared for the song, either. It was originally left off the soundtrack and was given to Apollonian for her album, but later taken back

"Obsession" was originally written and recorded as a duet by songwriter Holly Knight and musician Michael Des Barres in 1983. This version was played in the 1983 film A Night in Heaven, during a scene in which Christopher Atkins bumps and grinds in Lesley Ann Warren's face in sync with the rhythm of the song.

Ahhh, American Gigolo. The movie that basically kickstarted Richard Gere's career and made all the ladies panties drop in movie theaters everywhere. Not a bad song either.

I just saw Pat Benatar Saturday night.
It wasn't their normal rock set though. Pat and Neil did the show with the Toledo Symphony.
It was an OK change-up from the routine, but I was still hoping for Neil to break out the electric guitars.

He actually had more than just a couple A/C hits, eight of his songs hit the top 40 on the hot 100 and he won 5 Grammys. But yes he def fizzled out fast. I think it was because of a shift away from the popularity of A/C and Country Crossover in around '83 to hard rock (hair metal) and new wave, largely thanks to MTV. He kept releasing music up through '88 on Warner, then got dropped. He did release more albums in the 90s, but only overseas. And he's still pumping out the tunes. His latest album came out in 2014. #wherearetheynow
