Well, you're about as far off as one can get.

Good:
Leader Of The Band, Centerfold

Okay:
Under Pressure

Bad:
I Can't Go For That, Waiting On A Friend

I think there was a discussion of how Hectic and I both loathe that Stones song. And I can talk about the H&O song if you want, but otherwise I'll let it be.

You might be one of the few people who don’t like “I Can’t go for That”.
The title speaks for itself, I guess. I just don't see what's so amazing about the song. And the synth percussion sounds really "synth-y".

To be honest, I'm not generally a fan of H&O. Too fluffy-poppy, especially "Kiss on my List". But I do find something endearing about The Carpenters, one of sadchild's most disliked artists. So c'est la vie.

I thought this might have just broken 40.
"My Kinda Lover" peaked at #45 the week before. This was the single's 9th week on the chart. It stayed on the chart for one more week before falling out of the 100 completely.
Rush!
I thought it would make it to about 70, but it's always good to see them represent.
"Closer to the Heart" peaked at #69 on 1/9/82. This was the single's 7th week on the chart.

I didn't have time to work on comments so I figure I'd pull them together.

  • Jeffery Osbourne left L.T.D. by this point. The replacement singer had a completely different sound.
  • I wonder if "Tube Snake Boogie" was too risqué for the 100.
  • It's interesting to see another Dutch band on the charts (Diesel). I only Dutch band I remember from the 80s was Golden Earring.
  • "Don't You Know That" was a quite storm standard.
  • Funk groups like Slave and the Bar-Kays were starting to fade in popularity.
  • "My Old Piano" is an example of a song that did well in the UK, but fizzled in the US. It didn't chart on the US R&B chart either.

Mister seasalt, Dutch singer Adrian Vandenberg had a #39 hit in 1983 with Burning Heart. He became a member of Whitesanake in 1989. Mai Tai, a female trio from Amsterdam, reached #71 in 1986 with Female Intuition. Four medleys by Stars On 45 made the Hot 100 in the 1980s. They featured Dutch singers and musicians and were produced by Jacobus "Jaap" Eggermont, who, from 1965 to 1969, played drums with Golden Earring.

Graag gedaan. Ik ben blij dat ik kon helpen. Nog een prettige dag.

I was thinking about pop/rock bands, but these are all good examples. Stars on 45 have been mentioned on the forum before and Mai Tai's "Female Intuition" has popped up on @sadchild's "Will never breach the top 40." in the past. Speaking about Mai Tai, "History" was a better track than "Female Intuition" in my opinion, but it only made it to #109.

We discussed this before. This song was from 70s but this is live track. If their non-live stuff didn't break top 40, why would their live remakes do? Not saying that is right but just saying.

If I recall, he also doesn't like Dave Matthews Band because they lean towards bluegrass hillbilly territory. So maybe Sultans has the same vibe.
I am neutral on DMB but love Sultans. I would never have connected that song to the sound of that band.

If I recall sad has several quirks about him hating some really popular songs for really random reasons.

I find it boring, especially the way he 'sings' it. I find most of their songs quite dull, with most of their Brothers In Arms album being the exception.

Dire Straits

Genre: rock and roll

Discovered: MTV "Twisting By The Pool" but didn't like it. Then "Money For Nothing" on MTV which I liked.

Other: Not much of a fan outside of Brothers In Arms

HIGH FIVE:

1. Money for Nothing
2. Heavy Fuel
3. Brothers in Arms
4. Your Latest Trick
5. Ride Across The River

If I recall sad has several quirks about him hating really popular songs for really random reasons.
Certainly not! I do hate some really popular songs for different reasons. But I'd estimate more than half of my 333 are popular songs
