2025 Academy Awards are Sunday night March 2nd.

I've seen all the films from the major categories except for "I'm Still Here", because it's not available for renting just yet.
Here are my votes, not necessarily my predictions.

Best Picture - A Complete Unknown
This category was tight, nothing was a complete standout over the others. Anora was great. Conclave also. The Brutalist was good, but just too long. A Complete Unknown is the one that would be the most easily rewatchable.

Best Director - Sean Baker, Anora

Best Actress - Demi Moore, The Substance
Mikey Madison for Anora would be a close 2nd choice.

Best Actor - Colman Domingo, Sing Sing. He likely won't win, but gave an incredible performance. Brody and Chalamet also excellent.

Best Supporting Actress - Zoe Saldana, Emilia Perez

Best Supporting Actor - Kieran Culkin, A Real Pain

Best Original Screenplay - Sean Baker, Anora

Best Adapted Screenplay - Peter Straughn, Conclave

Best International Feature - The Seed of the Sacred Fig

Best Documentary Feature - Black Box Diaries

Best Animated Feature - can't decide between Flow and The Wild Robot. Both excellent. If I really had to vote, maybe Flow.

Best Cinematography - The Brutalist

Best Costume Design - Wicked

Best Film Editing - Wicked

Best Production Design - Nosferatu

Best Sound - A Complete Unknown

Best Visual Effects - Dune: Part Two

Best Makeup and Hairstyling - The Substance

can't really vote on the 3 short film categories as I've seen less than half of them so far

You can include the nominees if you want, but out of all the movies you saw in 2024, nominated or not, what was your best picture?

When it's expanded to everything you've seen, would you still go with a complete unknown or something else?

I think I am the anti-Aaron. Of all the movies listed, I have seen 0 of them (unless I missed one somewhere).

I'm usually a mini. Aaron and I tried to see as many of the best patron knobs as possible, but this year I haven't seen any.

Conclave looks interesting and it's on peacock. I like shows about various popes when they actually had power. I really enjoyed that old Showtime show The Borgias.

I’m not even sure A Complete Unknown was my best picture of the year. Given the lack of clarity in picking best, I went with favorite. I feel like Anora is going to win, and that’s fine, it was great also.

Not sure if there’s anything outside of the nominees that was any better. Sometimes you watch a small indie film with no major stars and think this is as good as anything I saw all year…. Ghostlight (on Hulu) was excellent.

I did not realize "A Complete Unknown" was the actual name of the Bob Dylan movie. I will be seeing that one eventually.

Inside Out 2 is the only 2025 Academy Awards nominee that I saw. It was nominated for best animated film. It lost to Flow, an animated film with several animals – and none of them talk! What a novelty!
